I chose to post these photos today because they don’t actually depict who I am in person. I don’t normally dress like this and I certainly do not ride like this either. There is nothing wrong with women who choose to dress so, but I personally will not unless I have a reason to (i.e. girls night out, a photoshoot project, etc)
Going into that, I want to share my personal experience of being on social media; in the public eye. Last weekend I shared a pit with two gentlemen, Gary* & Brian* and had my bike parked beside theirs. I was told by my friend Lucas* to pit with them first since he was only going to come later in the day as he bought the evening trackday session. Lucas & I have been friends for a year. Before last weekend I did not know Gary & Brian.
When the trackday weekend ended & before they left to drive back to Singapore, this was what Gary had said to me:
“Yulina, I have heard a great deal about you. Mostly saw you on social media & chat groups. I have to be honest, the guys I thought you were a fake. You pose quite a fair bit & had so many crashes too, we believed you were nightmare of a rider & couldn’t handle a bike.”
I chimed in, “But... I’m always honest about my crashes with followers because I want them to know how hard it is.”
He continues, “Yeah but you see, we didn’t know you or your intentions then. After this weekend, I saw you ride for the first time and the way you managed that ZX6 of yours - which BTW is heavy, old & on the crappy side - Brian & I have so much newfound respect for you now. I cannot wait to go home & tell the rest of the guys. Yulina, you are the real deal.” Gary ended his words with an army salute.
I wasn’t at all disheartened by Gary’s words, in fact it is perfectly normal. People will think or say all sorts of things about you, but the truth is they will never truly know you until they come across you in real life. I never needed to prove myself to anyone. People would know how much I love this sport - if not now, then eventually 😊
*Names have been altered.
Wearing the same dress & a year apart between pictures. I love my body before and now, but I can say that I feel more confident and happy now. Changes take time, patient and a lot of dedication. Every day you have a new chance to improve and get better. You’ll be learning everyday and that’s what makes your journey interesting to continue. Always believe in yourself.
We may have taken a moment away from tech life but nothing changed in terms of being on the trails with the dogs. #tongueouttuesday -
The dogs are wearing their @bandedpines collars. We now have a code that gets you a discount. HEELERPACK
Floral drape #installation has taken over my house, my days and even my sleep (dreamt about the mechanics believe it or not). I’ve gotten so many kind words of encouragement and support along the way... your words are literally fueling my fingers!! THANK YOU!
Of course I woke up sick 🤦🏻♀️ (my luck) so I’m hanging on. Just wanted to show you some of the pieces and say thank you 🙏🏼💕😘
