In a lot of the intensives for teachers I do, I like to work on our ‘seeing’ skills so, when we watch someone getting into/holding a pose, we can see, even feel, what muscles is that person engaging, which ones not so much, even what the person is thinking about, can be transmitted through an asana. As a teacher, or practitioner, if you can ‘read’ others, as well as your own, body, it’ll save them (and you) a lot of suffering and frustration. Developing and sharpening those skills is a magnificent tool to have, trust me! For instance, in today’s pose, both when you do it or watch someone, feel the legs engaged, so the hips are constantly thrusting forward & up, there’s no low back compression but rather a lot of extension around the hip flexors; notice also the chest lifting, heart expanding, shoulders relaxing and, as you grab the thighs (or closer to the kneecaps), use that as leverage to push, just a bit more, the arch deep into the thoracic spine (the lower the hands on the legs, the easier to do that action). When that happens, head will find the soles and you’ll feel the opening all across the front of the body, from the tip of the chin to the kneecaps. After a good warm up (include plenty of deep, long held, lunges too!) and other ‘smaller’ backbends, try this pose having those ideas, that intention, in mind. Even if you don’t touch your feet, if you manage to create more room in the low back and #practice this without discomfort, it’ll be a huge step forward!! More insights and tips coming up tomorrow. Your turn to tune inwards...

“El Palacio Legislativo es un edificio construido entre 1908 y 1925 en Montevideo, capital de Uruguay, fue inaugurado el 25 de agosto de 1925 como homenaje a los 100 años de la Declaratoria de la Independencia. Sin duda, una bellísima obra arquitectónica”.
