This picture shows a US soldier with a captured German StG 44 assault rifle.
The StG 44 was the first assault rifle to ever be made, and while many will debate this, I believe it to be true. To be an assault rifle you must have a select fire option, allowing it to switch between semi and fully automatic fire on command. This is what parts it from sub, light, and heavy machine guns and other types of rifles, not the fact that it has “longer range” than a sub machine gun, but isn’t “as powerful as a regular machine gun. While these characteristics may be true for assault rifles in many cases, it does not define them as weapons.
The StG 44 was designed in 1942 and produced from 1943-1945. The German army had been experiencing immense issues with the Kar98k and MP40 as they did not provide adequate amounts of fire or heavy enough rounds. In the early war, the Kar98k did fine, but as it went on, it became increasingly at a disadvantage compared to other rifles and sub machine guns that Germany’s enemy’s had.
After the Battle of Stalingrad, when Germany saw first hand the disadvantages of their bolt action rifle in close quarters against an enemy widely equipped with fast firing sub-machine guns, they moved to equip their men with MP40’s, and later, the StG 44. The StG had a much larger cartridge, the 7.92x33mm Kurz, compared to the 9x19mm parabellum rounds in the MP40, and while they were not as large as the 7.92x57mm Mauser in the Kar98k, the much higher fire rate on the StG 44 made up for it.
The StG was the best all purpose weapon Germany had, and while they tried to get it to as many soldiers as possible, it was not enough to stem the allies and the Soviets as Germany fell.
And no, this is not Vladimir Putin.
Like this set so much I wanted to post another picture from it. Also, just got a bunch more shots from the shoot and will be dropping them on #ismygirl#patreon in the next couple days.

Oktober har rullat ut röda mattan och solen leker strålkastare bakom träden. Varje dag blir lite som en galapremiär! Nåja, inte riktigt kanske. Men man kan ju alltid låtsas!☀️🍁💃✨
