I had to post this I LUV 🏐 shot for the two women who were caught being not so nice behind my back. Talk about feeling like you’re in high school all over again.⠀
Apparently I talk about playing Big Ten volleyball way too much & I should never mention that I used to be a pharmacist again.⠀
Those things were easily the least hurtful things they said about me, but you know what? Jesus dealt with a lot worse ridicule & still gave His life for those who mocked him.⠀
So I will choose to turn my cheek & not respond. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done to not fight back, but for that I am proud of myself & I know my Father in heaven is as well.⠀
But you better believe I will never stop being proud of my past & the things I have worked so hard for❤️ Here’s to changing the narrative of how women treat one another & to making this world a better place for our kiddos to grow up in.
These images are from my “non winning” entry from Range Finders rising stars of wedding photography. I was nominated, I sent in 30 pics like they asked.... I waited... I didn’t win. They actually asked if I wanted feedback but I didn’t care at the time I was just more confused about who I am and what i provide for these clients of mine who fly me to their weddings across the globe. I’m sure they would have liked me to win, but Im actually not surprised I didn’t win... because 6 months ago I can hand on my heart say that I had no idea what I was fucking doing….
I picked mostly hero photos I thought the industry would rate and that might get me the award. I have shot about 140 weddings in the past 3 years, and I have FINALLY LEARNT WHAT I AM DOING.. I can honestly say, my first weddings, the ones I hardly got paid for, they were some of my best work, I didn’t need a learning curve in photography, I needed a learning curve in working out whats important in life.. because when you are taking pictures of amazing people, it can be really confusing who you are and what you are doing, it’s like you are stealing a part of their soul but then people credit you with their inner light because you are the one lucky enough to witness it… it’s weird
I didn’t get it 6 months ago when I submitted to Rangefinder. I didn’t get it when @the_lane featured my work and I had their people writing to me from their office telling me they were jumping up and down screaming over my photos… I didn’t get it when @lscarfiotti invited me to teach at @cosmos_gathering
I even didn’t get it when at least 3 clients EVERY YEAR since I picked up my camera have written to me saying that a portrait I had taken at their wedding, had been used on a funeral booklet, because someone they love at their wedding, had died… usually unexpectedly and they needed a good portrait for on top of the casket.
It’s wasn’t until two weeks ago that I worked out what the be jingus I stand for .. it hit me somewhere between Philip Shepherds embodiment teacher training in Ireland and @johndolan photographing @gwenythpaltrow ’s wedding and coining the amazing phrase “the photographs should be about the wedding, the wedd
