Over the course of the past year I have made a conscious effort to spend less time on my phone and social media and more time being a present and active participant in my life. In separating myself from my my phone I’ve experienced a lack of communication with the loved ones I don’t see every day, but I now appreciate my in-person encounters with them so much more. I’ve neglected to share many of the tattoo projects that I’m so proud and honored to be working on, but I am now more focused on having fun and enjoying my work, as opposed to making things for the sole purpose of eliciting a strong response online. More than anything, I’ve felt a general sense of “oh shit, I should probably get back to them now” when it comes to staying on top of emails and texts... But when I finally stop procrastinating and get in touch, I feel that I am fully able to connect and articulate myself in a way that I wasn’t able to do when I was constantly immersing myself in emails 24/7 and spreading myself so thin. The sense of fulfillment and peace I have gained from letting go of the anxiety associated with social media attachment has been extremely freeing, and ultimately I learned that the people who I’m meant to tattoo and connect with will find their way to me no matter what, even if I’m not posting tattoos or promoting myself every day. I’ve learned to appreciate the shitty Instagram algorithm that everyone hates because it actually frustrated me to the point of getting my ass off my phone and enjoying life! Does anyone else just want to tattoo every day and not worry about the internet? It’s pretty ironic that I’m sharing this from an iPhone. I love sharing little personal pieces of my life with you all and I will continue to do that forever, but it’s become really important to me to challenge myself to enjoy my life in a more balanced way. I can’t express my gratitude to all of my clients (and future clients) for always being so patient and persistent when it comes to getting in touch with me, and I will do my best to get back to each and every one of you with an abundance of love and gratitude. 💗 Hand tattoo is on my beautiful client Kayla, made with love at @thetattoodojo
