Since the royal commission into deaths in custody (1991) the imprisonment rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women has risen almost by 150% | Indigenous women make up 34% of the female prison population but only account for 2% of the total adult female population in Australia. As a young Indigenous woman these statistics really scare me and hit very close to home.
Kirrikin are a social enterprise who have colllaborated with Indigenous Artists from all over Australia to create these absolutely captivating scarves all made from 100% silk, cotton and cashmere. They are raising awareness and funds through the sales of their scarves to help Indigenous women in Prison, as well as Collaborating with Indigenous Artists, to create an enduring and sustainable income chain. I am proud to be an ambassador for @kirrikinaustralia
