I’m very careful about what I post, we all have a obligation to fact check information before sharing it. With that said, I saw this video and was very skeptical, so I decided to do some research. What I found blew my mind.
According to a New York Times article written in March of this year “After the 2010 earthquake killed 200,000 people the government of Haiti identified mining for gold and other metals as necessary to strengthen the economy. To that end, Canadian and American companies have been granted permits to explore for gold, copper, and other metals in the northern hills of Haiti. Although the full extent of Haiti’s mineral resources are unknown, some estimate that there is $20 Billion worth of precious metals in the soil.” The political explanation the NYT gave is:
“The Haitian government and World Bank worked to revise the country’s mining law to attract foreign investment. The lack of transparency surrounding the proposed new mining law raises significant concerns about whose interests would be represented under the revamped legal framework. If the law passes it will pave the way for the country’s first ever commercial metal mine”
What’s interesting is that the article didn’t mention iridium (the 5th most rarest metal in the world). So I did some more research, and I found out that Haiti is believed to be home to vast amounts of it (actual amounts unknown). It’s very strange, that in 2018 there is no real estimate to the natural resources of a country other then lose guesses. It’s also strange that a country has 20billion (probably a low ball number) worth of precious metals and it has never mined any of it before.
The reason for this is that they actually just discovered they had all these resources. The discoveries were made in the rebuilding process after the earthquake. All of the riches were found in 2012. There’s literally a modern day gold rush happening that the general World public doesn’t know about. A terrible natural disaster led to the discovery of an abundance of riches, that was literally under the feet of one of the the poorest countries in the world for centuries.
Sometimes the truth is more interesting then fiction.
