Mahina Kūkolu, 5th visible moon of our current cycle, will almost certainly be visible in the clear sky today. While the first two moons- Hilo & Hoaka are virtually impossible to see with your eyes alone in daylight, the Kū moons, especially by Kūlua are at a stage of substantial growth. The cycle has locked in.
The kū we refer to took on many different forms traditionally. Some healing, some work related activities (especially fishing) and in some cases warfare. However...even the acknowledgement of kū was not an across the board tradition of all Hawaii. It is actually inaccurate to say "all Hawaiians" about any traditional practice. Even within a single community today there are layers upon layers and countless strands of living lineages that traditionally may have never even interacted. If there is contention and disagreement when you go back far enough into the story it will make sense.
The healing process takes on great relevancy in all our meetings, all of our decisions about community building. If our communities are in disarray, it then becomes critical to go back to the point when the land itself was in a state of peace. That point of peace will typically go into the era when ali‘i were either not present yet, or were still at peace within their family and had yet to oppress the Hawaiian communities already in peaceful operation. So in these very same meetings it takes not only understanding when the land that the community exists on today was in peace, but also the lineages of people present in the very same meetings were also in a state of peace. This will typically mean that you would go back to the time before the Kū political system of the ali‘i was in place and the family system was widespread. Those are always the two variables of peace- when both the land and people were at peace. The memory is in us all and the land itself... Also... KAULANA MAHINA • MOON CARDS are now available.
