Matsutake and mushrooms // I had no such a plan (or chance) to visit Hira-sansou, ranked as the No.1 restaurant in Shiga prefecture by Tabelog. Thanks so much to @laurayyu for taking me in!! The restaurant is surrounded by mountains without any modern shops or markets, so that they are using most local produces from the mountains and lakes. Also because of this, they got another name as “山の辺料理”, literally means “cooking on a mountain side”. This place is especially famous for eating ayu in summer and bear shabu shabu in winter. Yep, you read it right: a real animal, bear🐻 We went there in autumn, which was the best season for their matsutake mushroom. But we were lucky enough to still have ayu on summer’s tail and bear’s paw as well.
