That Nostalgic Winter Special Vegetarian Thali - Done
The winters are upon us. I can feel a nip in the air in the wee hours of the morning & in the evenings now & it reminded me of my days in Delhi when I used to wake up extra early to cook an extra vegetable for my lunchbox, just to avoid eating cauliflower that was @beingbengt 's favourite
Years later... hopefully wiser but still a creature of habit, I did make two veggies for our lunch today 🤦♀️But this time, I served a special "winters only" treat to @beingbengt in addition to his favourite cauliflower
1. Those Malvan Style Cauliflower & Peas
I tempered oil with mustard seeds, green chillies, ginger-garlic pastes, curry leaves & onions
I added peas & cauliflower & cooked till done along with tomatoes, fresh coriander, dried fenugreek leaves, salt & a spice powder from the Malvan region of India. I finished with a splash of milk, just to make it a little "creamy"
2. That Cabbage Stir Fry
I tempered seasoned mustard oil with mustard seeds, ginger-garlic pastes, onions & curry leaves. I added in only fresh coriander, salt & red chilli powder & cooked till the cabbage was cooked but still crunchy
3. That Salad : Raw onions, raw green chillies & lime
4. That Ghee & Gud ki Shakkar/powdered jaggery
This is such a popular combination in North India!! People eat variations of this but the basic version will always be my favourite
You get a powdered form of jaggery in the North of India which you then serve with hot pure ghee that is eaten with freshly made rotis /parathas
Heavenly combo!! This is something my papa @ravindradiddee loves so this one's for you papa
5. Those whole wheat parathas
They say old habits die hard. In a way, I'm glad
It's these habits that urge us to be nostalgic & the best form of nostalgia is through food. Don't you think?

My whole life has been about movement. Dance, yoga, improvisation, gymnastics. I share movement as medicine. To heal. To feel more, to connect with our bodies and transform. We are so rigid in our bodies. Stiff. Tight. Storing so much in them. Stress. Pain. Discomfort. Heart break. Trauma. Loss. We are afraid to scream, to cry, shout and even laugh. We've been told since we are children to not show our emotions, to control them. That having feelings of anger or sadness are bad, so we pushed it away and store all this shit in our bodies. Movement heal us. It clears. Transforms energy. Detoxifies. Moves the store shit, the old shit, the bad shit, the weird shit. Just like having a good old detox. When we let ourselves move freely we are free. Just like children. Children before we mess them up, they play, laugh, scream and cry when they feel like it. They don’t hold on to shit like us. They move it. How ever they need to. Without apology. Without fear. When we let ourselves be moved not by our minds but by our soul, our heart our intrinsic being, our rawest being without restrictions, ideas, or fear, without the need to give it a name or label, yoga, dance, tai chi, improv. When we let ourselves feel, scream, shout, kiss, flow, run, jump, breath hard, deep, soft, slow .... we move the shit. We get rid of it. whatever we don’t need, whatever is stored and doesn’t serve us. Whatever is not us. And so, we become lighter, free and crystal clear. .

My forehead vein and I are equally excited about sweatshirt weather!
Today in my stories, I attempted to talk about being willing to evaluate your workouts and be objective about progress— and I didn’t mean to pick on Orange Theory 🙈🍊....but it is so popular and I understand why!
They are great, intense, cardio-based full body workouts. My recommendation is to be sure your training matches your goals, so if you’re going 4-5 times a week and wondering why you aren’t seeing more definition in your shoulders or glute progress, it’s probably because those muscles are not getting enough specific sets and reps to be broken down and rebuilt using progressive overload 💪🏼
My advice would be— incorporate those full body workouts 1-3 times a week and use the other days to really hit the weights targeting specific muscle groups. .
I think you will find that you get more bang for your buck over time that with the the HIIT/cardio/ based workouts only! #trainsmart
And to be fair, I loved the OTF classes I’ve taken— don’t want to be a bully— movement is always the goal! 💦👍🏼
