The Best ACL 'Prevention' Program Takes Place During the Season As Well As Pre-Season
I was recently listening to a podcast with @strengthcoachtherapy and he was discussing the research behind "ACL Prevention Programs" or "Sports Performance Programs". One of the main points that caught my eye was the above quote.
We are not going to prevent all injuries. If we can reduce the likelihood that they happen, that is a great place to start. We need to make sure we are working on training methods to help reduce injury risk in the off-season, as well as pre-season, and maintaining improvements from the off-season and pre-season while in-season. #acl#aclrecovery#aclsurgery#aclrehab#knee#kneesurgery

Episode 8: ACL Tears Prehab (4) - Plyometric Exercises
The fourth section of our ACL prehab series is focused on plyometric exercises. In this portion of the workout plan, we want to focus on properly generating power & getting control over decelerating your extremities. This can be done in multiple different fashions but our goal is to make it as functional as possible for your given sport.
Our favorite plyometric exercises for ACL prevention programming are variations of single leg bounding. In order to perform this:
1. Take 2 or 3 fast steps (sprint steps)
2. Jump off of one leg at a time & catch yourself on the opposite leg
3. This can be done by consecutively bounding off of your right or left leg, or by alternating such that you would bound twice on your right leg & twice on our left
Our favorite variation of single leg bounding that is shown in this video includes bounding on each leg consecutively 3 times & landing in a squat/power stance at the end to gain deceleration/eccentric control.

This is going to look worse to you all than it does to me. I can feel my own kneecap again, I’m already walking with one crutch only and I’ve used the steps by myself (it takes me twice as long to do everything but it’s a win!) working on regaining muscle strength before my first post op so I can surprise my doc and feeling pretty good about this journey! The last year has taught me to slow it down a little and have patience with myself more than anything. I usually do 4 times the amount that most people would within the first half of my day. That’s just me. It’s taken more of a mental toll than anything just because I’ve had to reprogram my brain to learn how to heal. Who thought recovering would be this much fun? I'm going to the gym 3 times a week, PT 2 times a week. I'm able to bycicle as much as I want without getting pain and walking is going better every day. AND IM ABLE TO WALK THE STAIRS LIKE A NORMAL PERSON wooooohooooo 🎡🎡🎡🎡party.
It feels like I'm fully recovered and i knoooooow i have a long way to go, but there's nothing holding me back (#shawnmendes) and I'm able to move freely 💙 and do whatever I want #happygirl. I feel extremely lucky that everything is going so smooth, nobody expected it to go this quick. My PT said that the process would be much times slower if I wasn't this stubborn and determined 😇 •
I still wear my brace when I'm going out for a whole day, just to be sure. It provides stability and it just feels safer 😇 •
