Being assertive allows you to express yourself in an open and honest way. It shows that you value your thoughts, feelings and needs and can communicate it in a way that is respectful to yourself and others. Sometimes when people struggle with asserting themselves, it could mean that there may be a belief that their thoughts, feelings, and needs are not that important (passive) or that there is a demand for their thoughts, feelings and needs to be recognized without really considering others (aggressive).
