@Regran_ed from @belinda_vegan - You Won’t #Believe What Animal Agriculture Does to Pregnant Pigs.
Imagine spending your whole life in an #airline seat. That’s what happens to most of the nation’s expecting #mother pigs.
Throughout their four-month pregnancies, many of these pigs live in cages just large enough to contain their bodies. As the pigs grow bigger, the tight confinement means they can lie face down but can’t flop over onto their sides. The floors under these “gestation crates” are slotted so that urine and feces can slip through into vast cesspits.
Pigs live by the hundreds or thousands in warehouselike barns, in rows of wall-to-wall pens. Pigs are artificially inseminated and fed and delivered of their piglets in cages so small they cannot turn around. Forty fully grown 250-pound male pigs often occupy a pen the size of a tiny apartment. They trample each other to death. There is no #sunlight, straw, fresh air or earth. The floors are slatted to allow excrement to fall into a catchment pit under the pens, but many things besides excrement can wind up in the pits: afterbirths, #piglets accidentaly crushed by their mothers, old batteries, broken bottles of insecticide, antibiotic syringes, stillborn pigs – anything small enough to fit through the foot-wide pipes that drain the pits. Immobilized above their own waste, the pigs are exposed to high levels of ammonia, which causes respiratory problems.
Once the piglets are weaned, it’s back to the gestation crate for the breeding pig, which averages two and a half pregnancies per year. After three or four years, the pig is slaughtered for #meat.
Taken together, the immobility, poisonous air and #terror of confinement badly damage the pigs' immune systems. They become susceptible to infection, and in such dense quarters microbes or parasites or fungi, once established in one pig, will rush spritelike through the whole population. Accordingly, pigs are infused with a huge range of antibiotics and vaccines, and are doused with insecticides.
If you eat #animals, these are the animals that you eat. Your dollar pays for their abuse and death.

Only to have to wait another 2 hour for my ride 😣 and I'm hunger. Although agitated. I'm beyond excited to get out of Florida and experience my first big girl trip 😂lol.
