A close up of the boxlock action of the fine W.W. GREENER in the previous post. This damascus double barrel, hammerless, non-ejector, 12 bore sporting gun is a Facile Princeps model. The Facile Princeps was invented in 1880 and is the strongest action, weight for weight, of any gun made with the famous Greener cross-bolt. This gun is 125 years old, having been started on May 25, 1893 and completed just a little over three months later on August 31. For you students of Greener guns, the trigger guard tang is marked “List No. 28” which later became known as the “F 16” - “F” standing for Facile Princeps and “16” being the cost of the gun in guineas. One guinea is one pound and one shilling. So, 16 guineas is 16 pounds and 16 shillings or $21.90. Greener has been making guns since 1829 of over 100 different types in 10 or so different grades. To put the List No. 28 or F 16 into perspective, it is an inexpensive gun but still very well made. At the time this gun was made, inexpensive models cost up to 20 guineas, medium grade guns from 20 to 45 guineas, and best guns upwards from 45 guineas. Though at the low end of the Greener line, I’m obviously proud enough of this gun to want to show it off. #goodoldgun#gun#oldgun#antiquegun#englishgun#birmingham#shotgun#breechloader#sportinggun#sportingclays#sporting#birdgun#greener#wwgreener#facileprinceps#2a#pewpew#guncollection#gunnut#gunporn
My recent addition: a rather spiffing (and big) cap lock pistol. This came from Easton Antique Arms who you can now follow on Instagram in the shape of @matt_easton_chiswick_auctions. A replacement ramrod is being made for this pistol as I write, and it is legal to own in the UK as its calibre is obsolete. I’m quite enjoying building these vignettes but I’m entirely amateur in my photographic endeavours so if anyone has any criticisms please leave a comment.
