The Hentz Orbweaver (Nescona crucifera) is an incredibly beautiful Pennsylvania native. These spiders build large spiral webs each night, and their color patterns can range from dull brown (plain form) to bright orange. Primarily nocturnal, females may become diurnal in autumn.
I was wrong before with my previous posts about the largest spider I've seen. This is Wolfgang Amadeus, a wolf spider with a leg span of approximately 3 1/2 inches and a body length of approximately 1 1/2 inches. My keychain in the second picture is for scale. I sure hope he's there tomorrow when I come into work.
