I'm like this Lioness with her cub at a game reserve in the western cape in South Africa.
I'm a parent of a 4 year old daughter with autism.I'm enjoying laid back and relaxed however still very protective.
Being an autism parent is new to me and dealing with the muttering of people in our small village comes with its own set of
challenges.Especially when she has a melt down at the entrance of the store.
My daughter is virtually non verbal and the peadiatrician said that she may never talk. But he is not God so anything is possible.
She is still on a nappy which means here in South Africa she cannot attend a school.
The nearest school is 2 hours drive away and costs more than a days wages in petrol to get there and back.
I have thus decided with the help of the internet and some amazing friends I have met on Amiera's instagrame(Amieraodeonnell) account to teach her myself.
So far she now has a vocabulary of 15 words.#autism#autismawareness#autismawareness#autismparent

#autism#autismmom#weneedhelp#itsimportant#wecandoittogether#autismo#autismisreal#autismawareness#autismacceptance#abatherapy#myautism#myautismmystory#autismislove#autismfamily#proudparents

Half the battle is won!!!! The local authority have conceded school placement for September.
However... They are only doing this because normally specialist schools do their placement offers in December and January - because the LA have not done nothing until now they have found there are no placements available to present as an alternative to the court.
So.... They still want to argue that a residential placement is not necessary and want to pursue this in the hearing in the hope that they can move Sofia next year to a day school.
But... Their position is weak i think and now further weakened with this concession.
Our work is not done and bias of the court will come into play.... However this is a significant victory for us and such a relief to know what will be happening for Sofia this September at least :) #autismawareness#autismlife

When you have a 'normal' child, and he/she gets good grades, you are happy and proud. When he/she lives up to your dreams, you're happy and proud. This is natural.
BUT, when you have a 'special' child - a child with several odd barriers in life, every little success or happiness that he/she achieves, gives you unique and 'special moments of joy and pride'. I would now like to ask you to do me a favor.
It's the week of Special Education, Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It is dedicated to all the little bravehearts who are tirelessly trying to overcome these obstacles, in order to make their dreams come true.
Do realise that support and care from individual family members/medical practitioners/social activists is not all that these kids need; the society as a whole needs to ACCEPT them. Children with special needs are not weird or very different from everyone else. Please do not be insensitive and intolerant towards them.
Do copy and paste this post, in order to raise awareness regarding this issue.
Thank you so much.
