11/14/2000. Real Talk. Eighteen years ago yesterday, my life changed. This is my life now. Grateful for everyday I am alive. Grateful for the scientist and doctors. Grateful for the technology that gives a human the ability to live without a pancreas that produces insulin. Grateful for the path I chose in life and the friends and family who supported me. Type 1 Diabetic. Athlete. Grateful.
My friends, this time of year is stressful for many. Here’s something you MUST know.
There is NOTHING wrong or shameful with asking for prayers/support/or encouragement. It’s all energy. And when we all pass our positive energies to a person in need, it becomes like a powerful super-wave!
‘Likes’ alone can only go so far.
Writing out our encouragements in comments, spelling it out in a hand-written card, calling on the phone (or even a voice message) is supercharging the energy. It has depth and realness behind it.

E N C O U R A G E M E N T 💪🏻
Don’t be afraid to give it or receive it. It’s healing. It’s powerful. It’s necessary. As always, #youarenotalone
You probably know gut health is important. But do you know whether *your* gut is healthy or not? There are so many factors to consider beyond digestive symptoms, like how often you get sick and whether you were breastfed as a baby.
Leave a comment below and I’ll send you my 10-question quiz to assess your gut health. It’s fun, I promise!
Here I am trying to give an insulin shot in the wild, the struggle is real 🙈 》 As the temperature gets colder, the amount of layers of clothes I wear increase and it becomes a struggle to reach some skin suitable for a bolus
This picture captures pretty well what it feels like trying to reach my stomach. I can barely see over my scarf! 🧣❄

Parents these days be like, “Wash your hands! Stay out of the dirt! Don’t touch that, it’s got germs!” Long before vaccines, antibiotics and flu shots, kids managed to build up their own immune system by playing around dirt and around animals. (Shocking I know!) So around here, we decided to swap flu shots and vaccines for pigs, chickens and dogs.
Maybe we’re crazy, dumb and/or irresponsible—or all of the above. Possibly.
But outside of yesterday’s ear ache, this kid is hardly ever sick and at 6 y/o can crush most adults on hiking trails.
Time will tell, but so far the swapping flu shots for pig and chicken shit seems to be working 🤷🏽♂️. What to you do to increase the resiliency of your child?
Ah, yes...The transition between fall and winter is officially here! As someone with RA I can honestly say it’s not something I have historically looked forward to! 😝The ever-changing weather systems aren’t always kind to my joints. I am hopeful that with my progress this winter will be different though!! 👏🏼🙌🏼My hands and my feet are always typically freezing cold too, and I tend to “run cold” all year long regardless of the temperature outdoors! My husband teases that cuddling me is sometimes like cuddling a corpse! Lol! 🤪I now understand why there are so many “snow birds” that flock to warmer climates during the winter! Arizona is looking pretty enticing right about now! 😉😂☀️What about you? Do you also struggle with cold hands and feet? Does your RA pain increase during the winter months? What are your tried and true methods for battling RA in the winter?
☃️ “If you can’t change your situation, change your perspective on your situation” @craiggroeschel
There are a lot of things that I struggle to appreciate about winter. One day I decided to pretend the snowflakes were delicious marshmallows, falling from the sky for my warm beverage pleasure. #imachild
Thinking about the beauty of things, rather than focusing on the parts I wish would change, helps me see the beauty that is right in front of me. Literally, hitting me over the head with their beauty. Like those amazing snowflake covered branches. But when we are so focused on things we dislike, we steal prime thought real estate, and devoid ourselves of the crazy gratitude and joy we could be experiencing.
1 Timothy 6:6 tells us “there is GREAT GAIN in godliness with contentment.” Great gain when we look at the gift of life. The gift of experiencing life filled with the hope of what is promised. And even the gift of snow. ❄️
I don’t know about you, but I have never gained from negativity. Never. Contentment isn’t just what we ought to do. It’s what we GET to do. It’s what we get to experience and gain from.
Let’s choose life giving thoughts. Like marshmallows, tv fireplaces, and throwing a beanie on instead of doing our hair. 💁🏼♀️💛
