Some of you may have heard that recently, the US Military has put forward a request for a battle rifle, carbine, and squad automatic weapon chambering that would better compromise enemy personnel ballistic armor. They are looking for something of the 6.8 variety. This raises a topic of conversation to me as a battle-minded civilian: what if I have to defend myself against an intruder wearing an armor of some sort? Granted, the average thug will not be wearing Level III plates, but they might be wearing thick clothing, a leather jacket, or some sort of armor they managed to make or steal. It's improbable that this would happen, but it's a possibility to prepare for. This consideration isn't a game changer for our defensive weapon systems as civilians, but a mind opener. Perhaps we should be more mindful to ammunition varieties and training tactics that would help us defeat a heavily-clad adversary if one ever faced us.
