“‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take— Wayne Gretzky’ — Michael Scott” — me
This photo is blurry and composition is a mess but I’m posting it anyway because LOOK AT THAT LIGHT! 😍 I am absolutely an amateur photographer and I am constantly learning...and constantly frustrated. And working with a dog as my primary subject doesn’t exactly make it easier.
I had about 2 seconds to get this shot before Atlas decided he wanted to go catch up with the rest of our pack. I knew my settings weren’t right but decided to hurry up and hit the shutter anyway.
Much like reviewing tapes after the game, we can learn a lot from reviewing the photos that weren’t quite ideal. With a few more seconds, I could have made the adjustments I think would’ve given me a “better” shot. But I think surely this would’ve changed the way the light looked...
In this perfect-seeming @instagram alternate universe, it’s easy to beat myself up for messing up this shot. Or maybe I could’ve done more in post to “save” it. So many of the big accounts edit the daylights out of their photos until they are just a shadow of the original. Beautiful, sure, but real? Debatable. Swapping in different heads, adjusting colors beyond the realm of believability. I don’t blame them for it, but me?
I think this world is beautiful enough as it is. Atlas is a dog who does dog things and doesn’t always want to stand still for 15 minutes while I snap photo after photo. And I have a million and one photos of Atlas in perfect focus, but have only captured a handful with such perfect light. So I’ll keep practicing and I’ll work to keep things fun — for both of us. I’ll take real life over faked perfection any day.

It feels like winter is here to stay. Mason doesn’t seem to mind! Temps In our area haven’t dropped too far below freezing, but we know it eventually will. We don’t want the cold to prevent us from taking our pup out on the trail with us... so we’re looking for advice from those who have more experience than we do: What’s your favorite piece of dog gear to help combat the cold? ❄️ #themittenmutt
↟so grateful for every adventure with this handsome lil pup. he makes us proud every single day! ↟

Who else loves sweater weather? Cricket doesn’t have much undercoat so she gets cold easily. Seeing her shivering means a quick end to our outdoor adventures as we race back to our warm cabin! Thanks so much to @harrybarker_co for sending us this cozy sweater so we can stay out and enjoy the crisp fall air. #harrybarker#harrybarkerco
Until next year Fall. We got another dusting of snow last night. We just got back from a little walk in the woods, and apparently Kayden was on a mission to roll in as many stinky things as possible! 😂 It's probably because of the snow, he loves rolling around in it!
