“The federal law at issue, Title IX, is intended to protect students and employees of all education programs receiving federal financial aid from sex discrimination. Under previous guidance, students have the right to report sexual assault and harassment to their school's Title IX office and receive safety measures and accommodations such as housing and class changes, and "no contact" orders. Schools are also required to respond by promptly investigating reports, which can result in a variety of sanctions if the accused harasser or abuser is found to have violated the code of conduct.” She’s awful. #betsydevosboughtherjob#betsydevosisunqualified#betsydevos#sexualassault#campussexualasault
We still can’t help flint or afford universal health care or education reform, because then who would pay for the pointless wall and the space force and trumps trips to play golf ??🧐🧐#flintmichigan#flintwatercrisis#betsydevos
#betsydevos is an #evil#aberration - I can't even say "of a human" because she's slime. Sorry slime. I'll change it to #glitter - cause that shit's the #devil#Repost @milano_alyssa (@get_repost)
Secretary DeVos just proposed a rule that would make schools less safe for survivors of sexual assault and harassment, when there is already alarmingly high rates of campus sexual assaults and harassment that go unreported.
It promotes a process that inappropriately favors the accused and would let schools ignore their responsibility under Title IX to respond promptly and fairly to complaints of sexual violence.
We will continue to support survivors.

Betsy DeVos has reached a new low. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Friday released new proposed regulations on how schools should handle sexual assault that will give more benefit of doubt to the accused and walk back Obama-era directives that critics said were “unfair to men”. The proposals, which would affect the way schools must interpret the federal Title IX gender equity law, were months in the making and contained some major surprises, including a new requirement that colleges conduct live hearings for sexual assault cases. #downwithdevos#betsydevos#education#sexualassault#titleix (rp: @feminist_news_now ) (caption info: @buzzfeednews )

HANDS OFF TITLE IX
Betsy Devos’ Rules Will Roll Back Years of Progress Led by College Student Survivors. V-College activists on hundreds of campuses throughout the US activate every year amplifying the voices of survivors and raising awareness and funds for the rape crisis centers and groups that support them. We urge you to submit public comment in support of survivors during the 60 day comment period (https://tinyurl.com/y8enk66e).
Did you read headlines yesterday and go into a panic about the proposed Title IX rulings? Yea, many of us did too. We talked to 3 people yesterday. A Title IX Coordinator (she have a great breakdown of the new guidelines and shared a bit of hope with us—link to her statement in bio). We then asked two people who are very near and dear to HER’s heart: our former intern and a blog contributor who has been with us since we started two years ago. Both are college students who could potentially know classmates and friends who may be affected by these rulings. What’s your take on the new rulings? We say #HandsOffTitleIX#WeAreHER
@amyschumer THIS IS WHAT AN UNQUALIFIED Political appointment looks like. Secretary for Education should have some knowledge of education.
@betsydevosed You create and endorse patriarchal policy making at its worst, AGAINST human rights, democracy and justice. You are a bad human and a worse public servant.
@betsydevosed you are a mysogynistic billionaire. You have grown up so privileged that you have no need to care for other humans.
Her new regulation actually protects rapists. She is weakening protections for campus sexual assault survivors, reducing reporting requirements of colleges and universities, and giving an exemption to religious schools. To be clear, DeVos’ new rules will make campuses more dangerous for all students. Another step into the stone ages for the trump administration and another slap in the face to women. When will it end?
Betsy Devos' rewrite of the Title IX regulations have some good and some bad, including the much-welcomed reintroduction of cross examination when it comes to witnesses. The whole "retraumatizing" argument was never really backed by science anyway.⠀
However, it's not all good as Devos' rules now only protect students on campus or at campus events, despite almost 9 out of 10 students living off-campus. ⠀
Fuck you Betsy DeVos! “This rule abdicates the responsibility to protect every student’s right to safety on campus. It tells academic institutions that they needn’t bother helping to protect students; they won’t be liable," said American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten in a statement. "These changes once again demonstrate that students are not DeVos’ priority." “The proposed rules, said Shilpa Phadke, vice president of the Women’s Initiative at the Center for American Progress, favor students accused of sexual misconduct. They will, she said, "
This excerpt is from USA Today. Betsy DeVos is now screwing with title IX, which protects students. Sexual misconduct protocol is a huge part of these provisions. One of the new changes would allow an accused rapist to question their accuser (the survivor) directly. This specifically amongst other provisions is FUCKED UP. Speak out! :::::Thank you @marissajena for brining this to my attention so quickly:::::::
Hope you are having an enjoyable Friday evening. Oh and by the way, have you heard the latest way that this disgraceful administration and the overarching misogynistic authority will be further endangering the wellbeing of women? The proposed changes to the protections include, a person accused of sexual misconduct being guaranteed the right to cross-examine the accuser. WTF... all the way down to colleges having the option of using a higher standard of proof and the definition of sexual harassment colleges are required to act on would be narrower. This is no joke. Pay attention. #HandsOffIX#Equality#Feminism#FeministAF#Resist#BetsyDevos#ThisIsNotaDrill#CallYourRepresentatives
Today, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos proposed a major change to how colleges and universities must handle sexual misconduct allegations. The new rules scale back Obama era regulations and add new directives for schools on how to properly handle these accusations.
The Obama administration simply swung the pendulum way too far in favor of the accuser, removing any fair judicial treatment of the accused.
Due process is a constitutional guarantee, and the principles of “innocent until proven guilty” and “the burden of proof is on the accuser” are fundamental for the success and fairness in our Judicial system.
Betsy DeVos and the department are completely correct for establishing these new guidelines. As the department states themselves, “[the guidelines] encourag[e] more students to turn to their schools for support in the wake of sexual harassment and reduce[s] the risk of improperly punishing students.” Click the link in our bio to read the full article by Keyden Smith-Herold which contains the changes DeVos is making to school sexual assault cases.
