Daily Devotion - Listening When We Don't Want To⠀
So, here’s the backstory. Ahab, king of Israel, partners up with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, to attack a common enemy. Ahab (not a godly guy) is asked by Jehoshaphat (a very godly guy) to seek the counsel of a prophet of the Lord before they follow through with their planned assailment. However, this suggestion is met with resistance because Ahab has concluded that everything the prophet of the Lord has spoken to him is worthless because it has never been favorable from his perspective. In other words, since he hasn’t liked the previous advice, he doesn’t want to seek it out.⠀
I wonder if there are any of us reading this who can relate to king Ahab. It’s not that we deny the existence of God. It’s not even that we question the authenticity of the Bible. Above everything else, it is that we don’t like what the Book says. It asks things of us that are difficult to do and can oftentimes be tough to understand. We live in the modern world and the Bible is an ancient book. Whenever we seek advice from it, it tells us what we know is true, but not always what we want to hear.⠀
I want to encourage you today to go all in, to have faith even when it is challenging. To completely trust the Lord, even when He tells us something that makes us uncomfortable or offends our flesh. I pray that we would be so bold that we fully accept the Word of God even when it tells us something we don’t like or don’t especially want to hear.⠀

GOD THE SHIELD
Dear Lord, you are a shield for me, a protection that surrounds me entirely, you speak peace into my heart during times of distress; you are my glory. I am triumphant in the joy you give me and thank you for the personal care you show me. Thank you for lifting up my head, helping me to seek you and bringing light into my soul so it shines a light from the candle within. I appreciate that you defend me from all types of unknown adversity, that you watch over me and keep me in a secure place.
I have faith Lord, that you have good plans for my life and realise you are growing my understanding to a point where you can use my talents. Thank you for raising me up to a place where I am able to acknowledge that it’s your strength that gets me through each day. Thank you for giving me your favour in the daily circumstances of my life and for quieting my mind with your peace, joy and calm reassurance. You are my comfort, my peace and my joy, which causes me to lift my head and praise your name even more.
Thank you for being a shield for me in all dangers Lord, I know I can trust in you at all times. It’s an honour to be permitted in times of trouble to rely upon you. I thank you for all that you have done for me and all that you continue to do. In the mighty and gracious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
Many ask questions similar to these:
1. How do you stay strong?
2. What do you do for Laura? self care?
Thank you for asking these questions as they are part of the journey and great questions.
1. Without Faith and a relationship with God this journey would have torn me apart. But instead the Lord gives me peace, hope, intuition, energy, and much more to fight alongside Jon.
2. Since this journey began I told myself I have to keep myself physically & mentally strong. Meaning finding time for myself to get outside for a run and practice some type of mind body work everyday. What I have found works best for me is to roll out my mat: breathe, move, and recharge. •••
Now the reasoning for combining these two topics in this post is during my time of self care it is also my time with God. Running is where I get the most insight, guidance and clarity. Mind/body work is where I settle my emotions, work deeper on myself, let go and surrender to God. Each day is different, but I make a point to fill myself up so I can be present & able to carry through the tasks God has given to me to care for Jon.
I am excited to share this mat by @stillwatersco that combines faith & movement.
For each mat sold $10 will be donated towards Jon’s healing.
Now through 10/14 @stillwatersco is offering 10% off using the code LAURAB10.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.””
Acts of the Apostles 1:8 NLT
Thank you @wearewritersblock for the opportunity and a platform to speak what The Most High has placed on my spirit. I am overwhelmed by the Love and Support, and i am truly humbled and honored. This is just the BEGINNING of using my gift that i have been blessed with. If it is in Yahuahs will, it shall make room for me. If you hadnt checked out the poem, please do. Shalom!
Proverbs 18:16 KJV — A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Proverbs 17:8 KJV — A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
When it comes to hardships in life, it is common to feel as though you are stuck. The enemy tries to make us believe that nothing will ever get better. We can be tempted to think that we will always stay stuck.
One of the best gifts God has given to us is free will.
Free will means we have freedom of choice...we can CHOOSE joy. We can CHOOSE to run to God. We can CHOOSE to do something about life from this day forward. We can CHOOSE to pick up the pieces and create the best life possible with God's direction.
It may not be easy..it may very well be the hardest thing you've ever done..but it CAN be done with the Lord's help.
When we build our life on God's Word, and in Him, we have a solid foundation..we are building our lives on the eternal Rock.
When we build our lives on worldly things..things that can be lost or changed..it's a signal that we are building our lives on sand.
Today, CHOOSE to set goals that will create the best life God has for you.
Build your life on a sure foundation.
When you find His purpose for your life, life will never be the same.
Take time to pray about your hurts, your life, God's purpose for you, and the goals God places on your heart.
Ask God to help you get back up..ask Him to help you build your life in Him. Never Give Up!! God Bless!✝️🙏🙌
Matthew 7:24-27 📖
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
2 Timothy 2:19 NLT
“But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”
Matthew 6:33 NLT
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
