Last night I decided to take some progress pictures for myself. I then decided to take one for Instagram. After 15 minutes of criticizing every photo and starring at my flaws I got my stuff and headed home. I didn’t like the pictures because of various reasons: I looked tired, I’m not cut enough, I could have more definition, after 35 minutes of cardio I no longer had a pump, I’m bloated, the list went on and on. I rode in silence on the way home thinking about why I’m so hard on myself, and it came down to one thing.. my goal with bodybuilding and lifting is so vivid in my head and I’m so anxious to compete that I sometimes forget to enjoy the journey. No one wakes up one day looking “stage lean”. It takes months. •••
I’m not one of these fitness personalities that gets paid to workout or live a “fit lifestyle.” My life does not consist of eat, sleep train. I have a career that consumes the majority of my time on top of the time consuming tasks that everyone else has. I’m a real person, with a real job, real problems, real stress and real distractions. Some days I work long hours and it takes everything in me to go to the gym, but I still go! My life is full of the same excuses you have not to train or eat the way that you should. I hear it all the time, “I don’t know how you do the things that you do and find the time to do it.” 90% of the time that’s from someone who stayed out all night at the bar the night before. Someone who needs to get their priorities in order or stop complaining that they don’t look or feel the way that they do. There was a time when I let my excuses win. I’d skip the gym whenever I felt lazy. I ate whatever I wanted. When it comes down to it, you can be whatever the hell you want to be. No one is standing in your way except yourself. Change doesn’t happen overnight. Change takes time. So I encourage all of you to learn to enjoy the journey as I am. Celebrate the small victories. Push yourself a little harder each day. So I strained my hand( I swear I’m prone to injuries) but I’m doing what I can to still work upper body but not cause anymore pain! I’ve been mainly training lower body for the time being but I tried training back for the first time today and found what I can and cannot do!
