An adult male Brown-capped Rosy-Finch (Leucosticte australis), a member of an incredibly large rosy-finch breeding colony in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado. Over 50 finches were nesting in the cliffs of a 13,000 foot peak. Through Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, I captured 50 of the birds, including two foreign recaptures (one from Albuquerque 200 miles away, and one from Telluride 15 miles away). — Over the course of 5 weeks working at 6 different locations across the state, I’m delighted to say that 201 birds were captured, processed, and safely released! Now it’s time for the geneticists to work their magic in the lab!
