Over the Shoulder.
The Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) is a raptor of tall, mature forests. Indeed, this one was discovered at the outskirts of Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, IN. It is a distinctively marked bird, and foe of great horned owls. These two great raptors will often take turns eating one another's fledglings. Interestingly and in the interest of sanitation, hatchling red-shouldered hawks are able to shoot their poo over the edges of their nests at just five days of age!
