No real question about today’s star: the ruddy kingfisher currently pulling in the crowds at Bidadari. Last year there were only two ruddy sightings in Singapore (one of them by Yours Truly! 😎), and both were fleeting, to say the least. Bidadari used to be a good place to see the ruddy but since the ongoing construction work started there in 2016, these shy migrant kingfishers have been MIA. It was great news, therefore, when this fella showed up at the end of last week. It’s amazing (and more than a little sad) how an ingrained homing instinct continues to draw a wide variety of migrant birds to Bidadari, despite the fact that it has been reduced to little more than a building site.
