Kyrie recently made a comment that the Celtics needed another veteran presence, preferably in around years 14-15, following the Celtics loss to the Jazz. Not all of these players are available to sign, and some would have to be traded, but here’s who I think the Celtics should target. -Carmelo Anthony: Duh, obviously I’m gonna say this. Melo will likely be waived by the Rockets soon, and will be available to sign. Many of you likely thing he is a locker room cancer, but in a Celtics offense built around passing he could flourish. Celtics could also play him at SF, the Rockets and Thunder both played him at PF which is not his natural position. I also believe he could be a great leader, and could teach some moves to Tatum, Jaylen, etc...
-Jason Terry: Terry is currently a free agent, and last played for the Bucks. He looked good in the playoffs last year, and is a great shooter. Definitely a good leader, could give some scoring off the bench. Terry is 41, and once played for the Celtics. Finally, Terry listed the Celtics as one of three teams he would be willing to play for.
Jamal Crawford: Currently on the Suns. He has won multiple 6MOY Awards, and his arguably the greatest ball handler ever. Him and Kyrie could be interesting, and he could also teach some moves to the others. His experience off the bench could be what the Celtics need to help Terry and Morris adjust to their roles. Could be traded for with a second round pick, in my opinion. -Kyle Korever: Top 5 shooter to ever play basketball, Korever can still get buckets. Celtics need scoring off the bench, and could be traded for pretty easily. Korever also played with Kyrie on the Cavs.
-JR Smith: You guys might hate this the most, but JR is still a great scorer. JR has won 6MOTY on the Knicks, before getting a starting role on the Cavs. Playing on a 1-year, probe it deal, could make him play harder. Kyrie and JR have great chemistry from their Cavs days, JR also made himself available for trade as his minutes on the Cavs are no longer guaranteed.
These are who I think the Celtics should target, let me know who you think we should target👇
