Whenever I get something new for Athena my heart is just filled with happiness because I feel like I'm doing my best to give her a life she deserves!!
Does anyone else feel like this when they get things for their babies??
Well today wasn't the best day for Athena and I. She was a very spooky baby today XD and she stepping on my foot when I was going to get on her bareback to head back to her stall 🙃🙃 fun times (my foot is okay). Also yes before anyone says anything, I know she is young, I know she is just learning and I'm not saying any of this because I'm expecting her to be already bombproof. It did agitate me a bit, but even if it does I already know shes still learning. What she spooked at I had her touch it and gave her lots of loves and treats because of how brave she was :). The rest of the trail ride was pretty smooth!! All in all, even with my foot (😭😭) and her little spook, today was a REALLY good learning experience for her. Alot of her little spooks she was about to spook but used her brain, so I was proud of her ^_^.
You guys!! This mare seriously makes me so happy I could cry. I absolutely love how much of a goober she is 😂😂. Some of you may have seen this video (the first picture) in Jaimi's and my story and it just made me laugh to the point I'm crying. I just love how silly she is and how she is sooo curious about what's going on. She had by far been the most interesting mare I've worked with, though her quirks, her likes, and dislikes ❤❤. She makes me laugh and so unbelievably happy!! Also just to let y'all know she has what I call a car fetish XD as seen in Jaimi's story, she absolutely loves trying to eat cars, golf carts, etc. .
What is the funniest thing your horse has done??
Here's a "short" story of the day that I know you all love XD. So this post is half about Cherry and half about Athena.
I am so thankful for the things I know now and the things I will learn about to keep Athena, and any horse I have after her, happy and healthy. I really wish I had known most of the things I know now when I had Cherry. First things first, I was not raised in a horse family. My dad and I only knew the basic cares of a horse. Cherry when I was 12, she was my first bond and she protected me. I learned so much from her and I am sad I didnt know some of the things I know now. She was pretty easy to keep thankfully and I really didn't know to much, as a 12 yr old, about the things I needed to do (no, this doesnt mean she was thin or anything. She was actually quite chunky and happy XP). I always boarded her somewhere else and the people who I boarded at were amazing people who would keep track for me and my dad. When I moved to Pursley I started learning SOOO much more about horse care then I could have ever imagined and I'm so thankful I did. I started scheduling things and doing more for Cherry. Now with Athena I dont take any chances. Athena's health to me is the most important thing in the world. Honestly I'm stingy with money because im in college but when it comes to Athena, if she ever got hurt or something was wrong, I would pay anything to help her become better. I do feel sad about not having been able to do the same for Cherry (since I was younger) but now Cherry has someone who is loving on her and giving her the best care in the world and making sure she lives in happiness for an almost 29 yr old mare. I couldnt ask for better for her 😍😍. I'm so thankful for the knowledge I have now and will have in the future to help Athena live as happily as she can and already is 😊😊.
Today Athena decided she wanted to see what mama does in the tack room 😂😂. I had her "ground tied" and she decided it would be much more interesting if she saw what I was doing so she started to come in haha. I did not have to urge her or tempt her at all (but she did get treats for being such a brave baby 😉😉). Then we worked in the arena and she was a total love 😊😊!! Also I just want to say how thankful I have to have so many people in my life, whether it be online or in my life who have been so supportive and amazing to me!! I absolutely treasure all of you ❤❤!! I can't wait to meet some of you in person one day in the future so we can hopefully ride together!! And my friends now who are such a blessing in my life!!
I am VERY proud of this baby 😍😍!! Today was not by any means a perfect day but at the end of the day she was fantastic 😍😍!! We went on the longs trail ride weve ever been on together and she was a trooper!! We went with Jaimi and p-butt and Selene and J.R. and even though Athena thought every time J.R. looked her way it was a threat XD, but by the end she was good. I had to get on her case once and after that she was a good girl ^_^. I'm really proud of how she took everything in strides!! Also peep her trying to kill me with her fascination with cars in photo form 😂😂!!
Thank you Selene and Jaimi (@thepbandjai @galbraithvalintino ) for inviting me on a WONDERFUL trail ride and taking this pictures of me and Athena!! I truly appreciate it!!
Today Athena and I worked on some liberty and desensitizing. I decided today would be more of a mental day more then a work out day :). We did some side passing and then I worked on her staying with me and backing up with me. I noticed Athena loves to target the fluffy part of the string on the whip and loves to play with it, so to keep her engaged I let her target and play with the string until she is done playing with it. Also during this time some loud noise spooked her so she ran away and then immediately came back to me. After I reassured her, we carried on. I also worked on walking and me swinging the whip on the opposite side and she had the complete choice whether she wanted to stay with me or not while I swung it (I did it softly and away from her) and she stayed next to me the whole time :)!! Very proud of her. Then we went around the ranch and I worked on her being mindful of my body language by walking, slow walking, trotting and stopping to keep her mind focused on me. The we worked on desensitizing her to a cardboard box which she was fantastic about!! A little nervous but she was easily reassured :)
What other animals (besides horses) are your favorite??
