Here are some details about this particular commission. Well I love the old lines from our mentors of the past, so this is done in a more #Arts&Crafts style of the mid 1800's and early 1900's. (My favorite furniture design era, aside from the exquisite #ArtNouveau) This #lamp went to England, where the owners have become wonderful friends. Creating things personal is real really so much more meaningful of course. So in many ways it's a sharing of individuals that has been very good friends from across the Atlantic, sharing so much of each others places in the world going back&forth. Not to compare it to the statue of liberty-which is one of the most fabulous large scale sculpture & meaningful hand created gifts that the world can harken to & celebrate. The wood is #americanelm, it was harvested from a dying tree on a nearby estate. Most American #elm has disappeared due to an invasive disease, the dutch elm disease, that wiped out the expansive elm forests in the US 100 years ago. The few that remain are on very isolated plots of land that have not yet met the reaches of the disease carrying vectors. The wood that I have, I indeed charish. The #stainedglass is hand made & has an irridescent purple blue on its surface from being made with #Mtsthelens volcanic ash from that iconic event in our #PacificNorthwest. The brass has been silver soldered & machined in the same way things were done 100 years ago- w/ integrety &being built to last. Please take notice of the engineered on-off swich & pulls. (That took awhile) The 4 images were all tediously hand cut with a #jeweler 's saw- The #castle is their the actual home (I know, a castle!) Of course I was influenced when i invited to stay in their special place. qualitytimespent=friends. Their cat Max on the stone wall. Alphie being taken for a walk and playing in the field with his owner. And finally, a red deer with an enormous rack that I was watching as I was looking out their window. When I make #lighting I often try to subdue the glare of the lightbulb. So a plate of copper was carved and shaped to fit on top. Other materials include English Walnut and steel. @art helps #sculpture#jewelry#design#arthelps#art
