It's #TransformationTuesday and also Day 2 of #SelfCareWeek, where I want to talk about body image.
This side-by-side comparison of 2014 Helen vs 2018 Helen may not look like a huge transformation, but there are alot of differences which may not be obvious to the eye.
I don't know what I weighed in 2014, because I never checked it. Contrastingly, I currently check my weight every day and float around 51-52kg. Sounds obsessive, right? But in the first photo, I was much, much more concerned with my body. Check my photo reel from back then and there's an embarrassing amount of photos of me checking for abs, plus meagre "meals" that I insisted "filled" me (one boiled egg, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a handful of spinach... Yeah right, Helen). The reason I didn't weigh myself was because doing so affected me so badly that I had to force myself to stop completely for the sake of my mental health. These days, the number on the scale doesn't hold that sort of control over me - it's simply data that I collect.
Whether or not you happen to be content with your current weight, please know that your worth is not defined by the scale, the label on your clothes, or whether or not you just ate half a giant bar of Dairy Milk (🙋). It's fine to have goals - be they aesthetic, health or performance related - but don't get so caught up in them that you forget to celebrate all the amazing things your body can do right now.
For instance - I may not have washboard abs or quad separation, but I can walk all my daily commutes and pick up 2.5x my bodyweight. What about you? What are you proud of?
