🇫🇷 La Débauche - Superbia
This deep cloudy orange brew is a DDH session NEIPA, and you can definitely tell from the nose that they didn't acted like pricks on the hops.
It has a light hop burn, and a very strong aromatic, mostly focused on tropical fruits, tangerine and passion fruit, as well as a lactic nose (tho I didn't saw lactose on the label), light notes of green apple and vanilla. It's then followed by a pretty strong oat profile coupled with a very pleasant bitterness that reminds you this is not a tropical juice.
It's a very powerful session in terms of aromas, unfortunately a bit over-carbonated, so be a gentleman, take your time and rinse your glass before pouring. 🍻
Though it's easy to keep up-to-date on all the goings-on in the brewing industry these days, it wasn't always the case. The Viennese-based publication "Brauer & Hopfen-Zeitung (Brewer and Hop Journal) 'Gambrinus'" communicated to its readers the trends in the European beer industry in the late 19th century. No instagram or twitter posts to disseminate info in real time, just good, old fashioned print media. This medal was created to honor the publication, though its exact role is not known. On the obverse it features #Gambrinus, the mythical king of Flanders and Brabant, renowned for his brewing abilities. He is depicted holding up a chalice of beer and resting his hand upon a shield conveying the publication's name; in the background is a trellis of hop cones and an image of a brewery. On the reverse are the names of the publication's founders as well as fanciful information on "King" Gambrinus himself. Long before @beeradvocate and @untappd, and tweets about #linelife, there was this beer journal.
