Being in rescue I lost myself. It was so hard for me to say no to helping animals. How do you look away when they need you? When numerous people are texting you or tagging you asking for help? To be honest I had to stop looking. Something snapped in me one day and I realized I had to start putting myself first. It’s easy to get lost in rescue when you care so much. However if you’re unhealthy how can we help anyone? I want to encourage rescuers out there to take the time for yourselves. Ask for help if you need it. Don’t ever feel guilty. You’re doing so much everyday and deserve it. Animal lovers have the biggest hearts due to their compassion and compassion fatigue is a real thing. My happy place is around animals. Today I encourage you to thank your favorite volunteers, rescues and shelters. Tell them how appreciated they are and how grateful you are to them.
