I wheeled the bike into transition, as I was entering I heard the commentator on the finish line announcing Alistair Brownlee the winner! Way to fast! I racked my bike and ran to the run bag, grabbed it, took my helmet off, put on my trainers, grabbed my had and sunglasses, some gels and a 500ml bottle with a sachet of high5 powder in it, hung my bag and jogged out of transition. The crowd was amazing, very thick as I started my run, everyone cheering. Its a great feeling having everyone cheering as you start, it really really does help.
My first km went by pretty well, I managed to shake off my jelly legs pretty quick and settle into a nice pace. I don't like running with stuff in my hands but I felt I needed the bottle with the nutrition and I was sipping on that as i ran. It wasn’t till about 4km that I started to slow just trying to manage a pace. There was lots going on around the beach so I tried to take it in to take my mind off of what I was doing! It was getting hotter as the day went on. I ran through some aid stations grabbed water etc to keep hydrated and eventually made it to about 7km the furthest turn around point. I was suffering at this point and I had to have a little walk. After a while i started jogging again, my pace had dropped significantly by then, and the heat was getting to me. My run fitness simply wasn’t there! I was trying to be positive and count backwards, only 14km to go, but it didn’t help. I got to the aid station again and refuelled with water, some horrible Pepsi, and one of my gels. When I started running again I managed a slow but configurable pace. I hit the 11km mark and thought, your over half way, it felt like had been running forever! As I was heading back to the race village before I turned for the second shorter lap, I was trying to look at anything to take my mind off of what I was doing. #tri#tri365#trilife#triathlon#triathlete#ironman#ironman70#ironman703#ironmantri#swim#swimmer#swimming#swimbikerun#bike#bikelife#cycle#cycling#cyclist#cyclinglife#run#running#runner#yascycles#yascyclestriteam#teamces#canyon#canyonbikes#mycanyon
