The birch tree is my favorite element in this room connected to a kitchen. It is now the perfect breakfast spot. Fi Fi the cement dog was found at an estate sale in the garden. She seems to like her post. The huge umbrella mirrors another one in the connected kitchen. They both were free from a garage sale. The table and chairs given from a friend who was moving. It is so possible to score magical items that create a beautiful scene. The magic of this room is that it cost a total of $200 which includes the jute rug and plants. This was a very fun room to create. #interiorstyling#interiorstyle#interiordesign#vintagestyle#apartmenttherapy#oldhouse#eclectic#mydomaine#rustic#vintage#designonabudget
This is my favorite room in the Wygant house we bought and heavily remodeled in 2009. There was a wall with so much black mold that was part of an existing bathroom where now there is a beautiful pair of French doors we sourced off CL for $200. We demoed the old bathroom and moved it to the right of the doors. The doors bring in the southern morning light that floods into the kitchen as we have an open floor plan. This room also now opens the the private backyard with my coaching cottage where I work. This is saying something as there was not one green thing planted on this property when we moved in. Now there are more than eighty trees and plants. This whole room cost about $600 to furnish including all the furniture, window coverings and rug. I splurged on the pair of low chairs as this space needed tiny furniture and they were surprisingly comfortable. What a beautiful labor of love this house has been. #interiorstyling#interiorstyle#interiordesign#vintagestyle#apartmenttherapy#oldhouse#eclectic#mydomaine#rustic#vintage#magicalspaces
This is part of the kitchen in the Abode we built underneath the Wygant house. The space was an unfinished basement but I always saw a daylight apartment there. I wanted it to feel like a cozy cabin. We used old appliances to give it another timely feel and heated concrete floors to make the rustic also luxurious. There are a pair of French doors to the right of this scene that go off to a small patio and driveway which let in more light so it doesn't feel like a basement but more like a refugee in the middle of the city. The whole remodel cost us about $50k which I have heard is about half of what it can. That is because we do what we can ourselves and happen to know very talented friends who are on our team. #interiorstyling#interiorstyle#interiordesign#vintagestyle#apartmenttherapy#oldhouse#eclectic#mydomaine#rustic#vintage#airbnb
This remodel is the first house I have ever designed with the adjunct of social media for inspiration. My brain is exploding with ideas and I have to reign them in. Being inspired by others and also wanting to come from my own senses and eclectic nature. Here I love the warm color with the brass balanced with the beautiful stone. I wonder if my newest home will have a different feel now that I have all this visual stimulation accompanying me on the journey. I imagine it might. #interiorstyling#interiorstyle#interiordesign#vintagestyle#apartmenttherapy#eclectic#rustic#vintage
Dreaming of dream kitchens. This one ☝️ open shelves with the dramatic color. Simple wood element with classic stove. I have always been drawn to rich colors but timid in using them in my own space. I think being from tropical locations I have never found them a natural fit. I am going to move past my comfort zone with this new house and try on different layers of myself. The house will be dramatic. Home of @theglamourai shot by @reidrolls #interiorstyling#interiorstyle#interiordesign#vintagestyle#apartmenttherapy#eclectic#rustic#vintage
Been thinking of wallpaper. I have always had a room in my house that has a print. Lately I have been thinking on how some prints are amazing for a minute and then it just feels like clutter you can't easily purge. It is a commitment and a style choice you want to have resonant and land well on the eyes for many years. I find wallpaper the best in places you visit like restaurants or bars. You want that feel for awhile but can slip out of it. This bathroom of LA interior designer Marjorie Skouras is one I think I could hang with for awhile.
