“Mornin’” by Star Slinger
We typically reserve Sunday for these types of feel-good groovers, but now's feeling like prime time to share this hymn. It ain't mornin' anymore on the West Coast, but it is the start of the weekend and a balmy 73 degrees here in Oakland, Californ-i-yay. Life does not suck.
The man behind "Mornin'" is Manchester's Darren Williams, and he goes by the moniker Star Slinger. A producer on the cusp of being an EDM dignitary, he's been at it for over half his life. A true seasoned vet, Star Slinger has been tabbed to officially remix tracks for Odesza, London Grammar, Duke Dumont, Childish Gambino, Ellie Goulding, and Hundred Waters, and for good reason. With a vast range and a distinctive style, he seemingly can do it all. In 2011, the Guardian named Star Slinger "best act of the year by miles".
Star Slinger’s take on The Staple Singers' 1975 chiller "Let's Do It Again" is a true mood setter. Like those bleary-eyed wakening (or awakening) morning moments, it too starts from a coagulated state and gains energy, as if realizing that a beautiful weekend awaits. With honey by your side tucked neatly under the covers, this one-word song title is about as fitting as they come. Jam this one at my funeral and you won't find me rolling over in my grave.
Friends, I jumped the gun here with dreams that this track will serve as this weekend's morning anthem. Don't let me down!

One month ago, @bristolpride happened with @tomwheelerdrummer & @mikepbass. It was the most spectacular show yet. Shoutout to the LGBTQ+ legends in the audience for being so kind and supportive. Writing new music 😏. Sharing it with you soon xoxo 🎥: @kandocreativecollective

Friends, after spending the past couple of years underground, we are so excited to finally share our new single with you, "Don't Act Like a Stranger." It has truly been a long time coming.
After the flurry of our first EP tour, we retreated into our basement studio in two very different states of mind. While Johnny was watching a relationship begin to unravel, Brodie was culminating hers and tying the knot. There was a push and pull in that sadness and joy, a tension that colored our latest collection of songs.
Our first reveal, "Don't Act Like a Stranger", is in many ways the encapsulation of our two worlds woven together. It's a song about yearning, and hope—even in the midst of heartache. It's about exploring the beauty in that uncomfortable space between where we are and where we aspire to be. For us, it's a re-emergence, and a new beginning.
To the heartsick and the heartbreakers—and our friends and old lovers—whether you're singing along with the windows rolled down or nursing someone back to pieces, we hope this song takes you somewhere exhilarating and unpredictable and healing.
