The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the 8th installment in the Skywalker Saga. It released on December 7th 2017 to.. mixed reviews.. to say the least.
Favorite character: Luke Skywalker
Close second: Kylo Ren
Favorite Scene: Scene where Yoda appears
Close second: End fight between Luke and the Walkers/Kylo
Favorite Quote: “Let the Past die, kill it if you have to”
Close second: “To say that the force died with the Jedi order is vanity”
So, all and all I really liked it! I think I share the opinion of the more mellow fans who don’t treat it sacredly or who don’t say it ruins Star Wars and cling to Legends and their fan theories. Some people’s biggest complaints is they say Luke Skywalker turned into a pessimistic hermit. They also don’t like the flashback scene between him and kylo, and for the flashback scene I suggest going back and watching Return of the Jedi, and watch the climax to the fight scene between him and Vader. You’ll know why I’m suggesting that when you see it. Also, I don’t see it as him just turning into a old grump, he’s going through a journey of self hatred, exile, and pushing back the force away. We all go through times like that, even the most optimistic of us. Especially if our mistake caused The First Order! Another common complaint is Canto Bite and Rose. Canto Bite seemed a bit unnecessary to me, no way around it, but I’m sure some people enjoyed it. Rose wasn’t my favorite character my any stretch, but I liked her character in a few different ways. I liked the general message of “let the old ways die” and the kinda secondary message of “even nobodies can become hero’s” (we see this with Rey and the slave boy). I especially like this new direction where the movies are starting to add more complexity to the force.
Verdict: starting with 5 (mostly a joke)
+ 1: Luke explaining the force well + 1: Savage Kylo Ren as Supreme Leader
-1: showing all of Canto Bite being near unnecessary
-1: Save slave animals, but not slave kids?
+ 2: R.I.P. Carrie Fisher
FINAL VERDICT: 7/10
