I’d spend every day after school and often before school, taking figure skating lessons at the rink. We always lived out in the bush, so we‘d have to wake up early, get the car started to warm it up (it would be plugged in of course), and my mom would drive me 30km into town in the pitch black of the early winter mornings. I remember jamming out to my Soul Decision cassette on the drive in at 4:30 am, easing the tired by thinking about how I’d probably get a french vanilla cappuccino from Tim Horton’s once practise was over. Just the most Canadian.
I definitely don’t strap these old things on very often; even finding time on an indoor rink is hard to come by. So you can imagine how special it was to me to be able to experience the freedom of limitless gliding on this frozen lake, when all of the perfect conditions came together to make it possible. It brings back a lot of special memories (even if I am a little rusty) and to be surrounded in such natural beauty was just the icing on the cake 👌🏼
Thanks to @braedin for capturing one of my favourite days of the year (and for keeping up... kind of).
