People. I nearly cried this morning at yoga. Not because it was hard- it was awesome- but because of my awesome teacher. Weeks ago she said, “when I cook it’s with my microwave.” I said, “Hey, cooking doesn’t have to be difficult- it’s delicious.” And then I invited her to one of my classes. .
She came with a friend and we cooked through a fall dinner with braised chard, lime chicken soup, a cauliflower pear chop salad, and a coconut maple rice pudding with caramelized pears, helping her with some knife skills and kitchen hacks. She left saying, “I’m totally cooking these at home.”
And then today at the end of class she rushed over to tell me she had and it was going awesome. “I’m still getting faster, with the knife, but that class made me feel like I could.” And that’s when I was blinking back the tears. .
It doesn’t matter that she’s older than me, it matters that she decided to take a risk and try something new, showed up to class, and took those new skills and knowledge home and stepped out from where she was into new possibilities that she didn’t see before.
Also, we cooked and ate great doable seasonal recipes always a perk.😉
💕Yeah, I get emotional about teaching. Because anytime you can help someone get to somewhere the haven’t been before is life-giving. .
Kinda of the way I feel about what she and so many of my other yoga teachers have done for me. 💫
Anthony Bourdain is bang-on. It’s asking questions, uncomfortable stretching, and frankly, doing it over and over again that takes us to new and exciting living. .

Fresh figs: love them or hate them? Fresh figs have a unique texture, a honeyed sweetness, and a mellow, earthy taste--but a perfect fresh fig can be difficult to find. Like many other fruits though, the flavor of imperfect fresh figs can be improved tenfold by macerating them in sugar for a short amount of time. I like to use short-macerated figs in salads or over yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast--but if I'm lucky enough to score a large number of figs for cheap, I'll turn them into a sweet treat no one can resist. That recipe's coming up to the blog tomorrow!

Who’s getting delicata squash in their box this week?! Delicata squash might be the easiest squash to cook with because you can actually eat the peel. Plus it’s sweet flavor makes it super versatile. Try it roasted tossed in coconut oil and rosemary!
