Friday outro: human
This is one of my favorite pics right now at this moment. It shows the vulnerability of a man/human who gives their all to a cause and often times gets no acalides or recognition. So y do he continue to do it? I honestly don't know the answer. But it reminds me of something I've always wondered. How can humans flip that switch and go from average to great or fearless within seconds while facing incredible odds? I've said this before but it's so many lessons I've learned by spending time with some recipients of the covenant Medal of Honor.
One story in particular came from a recipient who had gotten back to base after a long tiresome day of fighting, when a call came over the radio of another platoon that was in danger of getting over ran in Vietnam. When this man heard which platoon it was, he knew that was the platoon that his brother was in. Immediately he boarded a Helio going out there without his weapon and didn't realize it till he was halfway there. After touching down he picked up an enemy weapon and started firing down range. In the midst of firing, a grenade landed by his feet and without thinking he picked it up and threw it. Exploding just after he released it, losing a hand, he continued to fight back despite losing a hand and being shot multiple times.
He didn't save his brother but he did help the platoon stand their ground and he was rewarded.
What was it that flipped the switch in him to push past the pain and what was happening to keep firing back? Training? No. When I asked him he gave a simple answer, "I wasn't thinking tbh with u. I just knew my brother was out there and I needed to go get him." I feel like if we could learn to flip that switch without thinking, how great would we be? To live our lives without fear and just chase our passions and goals? How much better would the world be as a whole?
But hey, we're all just humans right? (Which in a lot of ways seems like an excuse but that's for another time!) Rest up this weekend so when Monday comes, you'll be ready to go all out for ur dreams and passions!
