Maybe it's too late for spring planting but not too late for a terrierarium.🐕🌿
Here are several adorable dogs😍 from an unidentified photo album. The dogs are seen jumping around Maplewood Farm at the intersection of Maplewood and Woodbury avenues in Portsmouth. This vast 1000-acre property was owned by Frank Jones, the King of the Alemakers, who while not seen in the photographs was believed to be the owner of the dogs (or his family was). At least one person in the photographs has been identified as an employee of Jones, and his duties might have included caring for the dogs. [Unidentified photo album, c. 1890, PS1863]
Every Wednesday in June, the Athenaeum joins @utsaspeccoll and @archival.pups for the @iglibraries Dog Show, highlighting dogs found in our collection.
