When our lives bring forth good fruit, it reveals God's glory through and in us (and our family). Often times raising children can be even harder than marriage. But a lot of parents make it a lot harder than it needs to be. Worrying and preoccupied with doing a lot of other things they think will help the chances of their kid turning out all right.
All while ignoring or forgetting some of the most important things, which can be broken down into four aspects:
1.) Helping their child arrive at adulthood with a relatively healthy emotional life, while unlocking their God-given identity.
2.) Pointing them in the direction of a meaningful relationship with God;
3.) Providing a decent education, and practical life skills.
4.) Being aware of their core strengths, and spiritual giftedness.
As a parent giving a child these four things, the child would have most of what they need to thrive in adulthood. While these four aspects of raising kids are great, we'd like to unpack the fourth one.
When can you start identifying your child's spiritual giftings? You first can see some at birth. But as the little person starts to grow, they start becoming more visible. Where they put their time and energy is where you can start identifying their giftings. (1 Cor. 12:4-11).
Just because your child is playing sports or learning an instrument, doesn't always mean they're going pro or going on a world tour.
Never push a child into a certain path, you see fit. Rather, see what path seems to be emerging for them. Observe what appears to give them passion, and then encourage that passion. This is honoring their gift. Trying to work with your child’s giftedness, not block it or frustrate it.
We urge you if you can't see your child's spiritual giftings right now, pray & wait. Ask your Father for wisdom, sensitivity, & guidance on how to nurture what is implanted in their heart. "Instead, by speaking the truth in love, we will grow up completely and become one with the head, that is, one with the Messiah." (Eph. 4:15). #ElijahHouse#EH#identity#spiritualgifts#children#raisingkids#family#familytime#friends#spiritual#Godtalks#Coeur
My happy place is going to a coffee shop because it’s just you and whatever you’re planning on doing in that moment. This week I’ve been so out of it with my energy level being lower than usual. Due to my low energy level, I realized all I wanted to do was sleep and avoid reading my bible or praying. I pushed through even though it was really hard to stay awake I learned that in the hard times that’s when we need to stay in constant communion with the Lord. The way being in a coffee shop is my happy place God’s happy place is when we’re interceding in his word and in communication with him in prayer. This week has been hard but I know next week will be better. If you’re having a hard week like I am, know that God is faithful and he wants to give you the joy and peace we need to push through. Last night I literally just sat on the dinning room table told God “I’m exhausted and I don’t want to read. I feel like I’m not myself and I don’t like it. I need you to give me your strength because I can’t do this on my own.” I went to be and woke up so refreshed & ready for whatever God has for me. I was in Starbucks before work and I was just in awe of who he is. I praised him while listening to worship music and just talked to him until my bus came. Remember that God wants to speak to you today and he wants to know what’s bugging you or what makes you happy. Enjoy the moments of solitude with you and the Lord. •
