The Reason Why You Are Successful Is Because Jesus Is With You! Genesis 39:2 "The LORD was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian." #grace#gospel#Jesus1st#jesuschrist#God
When you read the scriptures, have you ever wondered or even wished that you were there? To be physically present with the crowd around Jesus as He spoke, taught, performed miracles, etc.? As great as that would've been, we are equally blessed or perhaps even more than those who were present at the time of Jesus. Because we know how the story ends, we know who Jesus is, we know how the Paraclete was sent after the Ascension of our Lord and how God still actively remains in our lives.
We hear in the Gospel today, Jesus speaks to the Pharisees and those around Him, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM".... because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him" - When we hear "lift up the Son of Man" we know He is speaking about Jesus, the Son of Man, being lifted up on the Cross - but for the people hearing this for the first time it wouldn't have been clear. But the connection that they could've and would've made was the story that we heard in the first reading - the Bronze Serpent that was raised to save those who looked at it with repentance during exile. This connection would've been even more obvious because of what Jesus says right after ".,.. then you will realize that I AM" - Jesus reveals Himself as "I AM" - of course everyone will make the connection to Moses encounter with God at Mount Sinai where he received the Ten Commandments. It was a clear connection to the waited Messiah, how as the bronze serpent was raised to save the multitude, the Son of Man, who is I AM will be raised for the sake of those who believe. Although the connection was clear, as the fulfillment of the Old Testament it still required great act of faith; but many did believe Jesus because He spoke this way.
What about us? We know the story. We know who Jesus is as revealed in the Scriptures and the Sacraments. We know God reveals Himself through the Holy Spirit. Is this knowledge, faith, and love for God lived out in our daily lives?
Although it would've been nice to have seen Jesus "in action" we know God works through us every day - probably the greatest blessing that we take it for granted... #homilybyfatherlee
