But I think I love Fall most of all. This weather is my family’s absolute favorite. I think we spend more time outside during Fall than any other season; we’re heading up North camping next weekend in Minnesota, and hoping to catch some Fall colors. What’s your favorite Fall destination to do some color-watching? #upnorthmn#fallcolors#handmademodernhome
Sunday rituals. I try to take a little time out on Sunday and write down my task list for Monday. In a way I'm taking it out of my brain and giving me a bit more head space to relax and enjoy the weekend. Do you have any Sunday rituals? This nook from my client is the ideal place for a Sunday nap, another Sunday ritual. 😴💤 #bannerdaysf 📷 @vivianjohnsonphoto

Tonight’s plan... because it’s officially fall and I forgot to acknowledge the first day of the season yesterday. I’m making pumpkin bruschetta (recipe on the blog), we’re lighting the fire, and obviously cuddling dogs. The Halloween shelves are styled (see my stories) and I’m welcoming the season with open arms and giant mums!🍁🍂🎃
I love decorating with my kids artwork! Something I’ve discovered is getting them little canvases from Target every once in awhile and they feel super professional and it’s so much easier and sturdier to hang! Win win! Also this little empty spot was totally calling for one of my little eyeballs 👌
My best friend drove from TN to SC to come visit me back in July. When he arrived, he said, "I have something for you in my car. I think it's old and it smells really funky inside. Someone gave it to me but I immediately thought of you. You'll definitely need to paint it." He lugged out this old flat top trunk with leather handles that smells like it hadn't gasped for fresh air since 1899. Did I mention it was pink? Like, really pink.
I thought eventually I'd get around to painting it. I knew it would take time though, because of all the beautiful wood I wanted to leave as-is. So in my storage room it sat. Today I finally decided to tackle the project and I pulled it out into my living room. There it sat against my kitchen island, which is painted a glorious deep emerald green with a dark wood counter top. Suddenly something just CLICKED. I busy'ed my day away with quick and inexpensive household projects to tie in this newfound love. I built a wood shelf to host an antique oil painting I've had for months and didn't know where to put (you can see it peeking through on the right side of this photo.) Then I replaced my broken down coffee table with this old trunk. This free old trunk. This old trunk that I thought needed so much work and in reality, I was the one who needed to change- to change my way of thinking and my reality. To break down the walls of what I thought my life needed, and see what I already have is more than enough.
My living room right now... it's gorgeous. It's stunning. I'm so happy I could cry. 3.5 years of living in a construction zone with half-finished rooms and my living room is finally the first room totally complete. All thanks to this lovely trunk, whose spunky pink personality made me realize that I need to be more grateful for everyone and everything in my life: as-is and in the moment. And that the right pop of pink can liven up any dull space.
Cleaned all the dust off our patio today, just in time for some slightly cooler temps, which means we can actually enjoy it! (At least in the mornings and evenings.) I love this outdoor space, and this sun shade is such a must have - don’t know what we’d do without it! ☀️🌵❤️
