Ever since my podcast episode with @nicholeproffitt , I talk to my clients a lot about increasing their reference points for pleasure and beauty. Often, with chronic illness, pain, or trauma, we need to actively work to see the pleasantness and grace that exists all around us.
Thanks to some not-so-awesome news I’ve received, I am currently in a state of overwhelming emotion/ trauma. My central nervous system is doing what the ladies of @blissandgritpodcast talk about: fight and freeze AT ONCE. The emergency brake is on and I’m flooring the gas (ladies, that really is a perfect description).
This current life experience ( or life reaction ) I’m having has officially made me sick. I’m laid up with a bad head cold, I’ve injured my neck, have bad headaches and nausea... it’s Super fun times. But that’s not all that’s happening. Life is never just one thing.
Yesterday, when I was working at my fave cafe, the pictured ten-week-old puppy, stumbled in. He’s so brand new to the world, he even smells new, and he was so happy to cuddle with me. He felt like a heavy stuffed animal and his kisses and face snugs were actual bliss. Actual medicine providing temporary and natural relief. And there’s always more where that came from.
There’s the sunflowers I have on my kitchen table, there’s the way it feels to be in Ian’s arms, there are the pink trees lining some streets in LA. Life is so full of all of these surprises and pleasantries. That doesn’t take away the pain, and, yes, I will probably just have to be under the covers today (which is also safe, pleasant and lovely), but it makes life so dynamic and—quite honestly— healing. Go look for your bliss and don’t forget to hold it and snuggle with it.
☝🏻 BIG LUNCH = LIGHT DINNER is my motto... But why? Read below to find out! 🙋🏻♀️
👴👵 Way back when our Grandparents and even our Parents were younger, the lunches were the main meal and the dinner was simple a sandwich, soup or something along those lines. •
⁉️ A question I always ask my groups in the weight management clinic is WHY do we eat...what is the main reason?. A lot of the children, and even their parents, are unsure of the reason we eat everyday. Something so important to know is forgotten under this mass media producing whirlwind of mixed opinions or stretched truths that we forget the fundamentals of food. •
⛹️ The main reason we eat is for energy. We use most of our energy in the day by working, walking to places, going to the gym, going to college, doing a sport etc. In the evening, most of us enjoy to lounge on the sofa to relax and watch our fave programs right? ... So why do we NEED a lot of energy in the evening...? •
🥗 If and when I can, I try to fuel me up at lunch and have something nutritious and light in the evening. And today is a perfect example of that day! 💛
You set a goal.⠀
It becomes too much and you can’t achieve it.⠀
You blame yourself for the failure.⠀
Today I want to challenge that thinking.⠀
Today I want you to look at the *actual* problem, and I have a secret for you...lean in close…⠀
It’s not your fault.⠀
Read that again.⠀
It is not your fault that your goals aren’t working for you, and by blaming yourself you are keeping yourself trapped in this same cycle.⠀
Instead of thinking that *you* are the reason you didn’t go to the gym 3 times last week, I want you to ask yourself “What is it about going to the gym that isn’t working for me? Was it the time? Was it the class or workout I decided to try? Is the gym too far from my house or my work? Do I feel comfortable there?”⠀
Answering these kinds of questions can help you identify the real cause of the problem.⠀
If you’re not a morning person, stop trying to be! Pick a time to exercise that works better for you!⠀
Hate working out at the gym? Why not join a walking group, or learn how to dance, or take up kickboxing?⠀
Really struggle to get your veggies in and don’t like beans - stop trying to be a vegetarian!⠀
When you try and force yourself to do something against your nature, it will be nearly impossible for you to stick to that new habit.⠀
So instead of blaming yourself for not being able to do something you think you “should” be doing, why not listen to your body, and learn how to solve your problem more effectively?⠀
You know what? I have tried a thousand and one cookie recipes that are “healthy” and/or gluten free, refined sugar free, etc. Although there are some decent contenders, there is NOTHING better than a perfectly baked, all-purpose flour and cane sugar filled, freakin chocolate chip cookie. 🍪 It’s called #balance, or whatever. 🤷🏼♀️
🌲 If you haven’t tried northern lights black spruce essential oil yet, run, don’t walk to grab it in this A D O R A B L E holiday gift set. ⠀⠀
🌲 This gorgeous glass container with comes with about 20 diffuser rattan sticks and it makes an excellent gift. ⠀⠀
🌲 Just dip a few of the rattan sticks in a bottle of Young Living essential oil for 3-5 minutes and then place in a separate container; they will cheer up any room! ⠀⠀

This greek yogurt chicken salad is a huge lifesaver! You can make a big batch of it and enjoy it throughout week in so many different ways (as lettuce wraps, sandwiches, as a dip, salad topping, on a whole wheat wrap...). 👩🏻🍳 .
I highly recommend you give this one a try, here’s what you’ll need:📝
Yields 4-6 servings -2 cups of shredded chicken breast -3/4 cup of plain greek yogurt (make sure it’s plain, not vanilla flavored!) -1/2 cup of chopped celery -1/3 cup of chopped shallot or white onion -1/2 cup of chopped granny smith apple -1/2 cup of halved green grapes -1/2 cup of walnuts -Salt & pepper to taste -Juice of 1/2 lemon -2 tablespoons of dijon mustard
1. Poach your chicken breasts until fully cooked, then shred into the desired size (I like mine in small bits). 2. Wash and chop the onion, celery, apple, grapes, and nuts, then set to the side.
3. Make the dressing base by mixing Greek yogurt, lemon juice, salt & pepper, and dijon mustard.
4. Add in the chicken and the rest of ingredients into the dressing and mix until thoroughly combined.
5. Chill for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors marinate, serve and enjoy! -TBB.⚖️👩🏻💕 #thebalancedbrunetterecipes
Never underestimate the power of walking 👣💚
Walking is a great way to stay active! A brisk walk can help burn off excess calories, improve circulation, ease joint pain and make your heart healthier. Plus, it can help you relax and lighten your mood! Other benefits include that it’s cost-free : you can do it whenever and wherever you want! And it’s an activity that you can enjoy on your own or with loved ones. Just make sure to use appropriate shoes and stay hydrated! 💦✌🏻
