One of the most disgusting places on the face of the planet. Humbled and horrified to have walked the city of a lost generation. This places serves as a warning to humanity that we must never forget the evil capability of the human heart and work tirelessly to change it. "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it" - George Santayana
The Wijnberg family of Holland, late 1920s.

Henny Wijnberg 1925- February 12th 1943.
Mietje Wijnberg 1890- February 12th 1943

These all died in Auschwitz.
Jonas had a Neice, Selma Wijnberg who now lives in America aged 96. She was one of 34,000 Dutch Jews sent to Sobibor. Of them only 16 Dutch Jews survived the Sobibor Death Camp, her self included. She is also the very last survior of the 4 main Death camps, Belzec, Chelmno, Treblinka and Sobibor, who collectively killed 2 million Jews.
These little plaques are in the sidewalks around Germany, but this morning I noticed them along the street of Rome around the corner from our apartment. These are placed in front of the homes of Jews who were rounded up and shipped to concentration camps during the Holocaust. The dates say when they were arrested and she they died. Sobering reminders to never forget and never let it happen again. #holocaust#remembrance#neveragain
Interesting that this caption in the Warsaw Uprising museum admits that some Pomes persecuted Jews during the holocaust. I would have thought this was against the new law in Poland that tries to change history. #warsawrisingmuseum#poland#warsaw#holocaust
Hanuš Rosenberg zahynul ve třinácti letech v koncentračním táboře. Jeho osud nyní připomněla skupina studentů gymnázia v Moravských Budějovicích.
Na začátku války nastoupil Hanuš do primy na moravskobudějovické gymnázium. O prázdninách před nástupem do sekundy přišel zákaz studia židovských dětí. „22. května 1942 odjeli transportem do Terezína. 25. května ta rodina Rosenbergova odjela prvním transportem do koncentračního tábora Majdanek, a je velice pravděpodobné, že byli ihned zavražděni,“ popisuje smutný konec rodiny archivářka Lenka Jičínská.
Studenti pátrali v kronikách, povídali si s pamětníkem, a z dochovaných rodinných záběrů sestavili komentované video, které popisuje Hanušův krátký život. goo.gl/e2FqDn
📖 #27: East West Street by Philippe Sands - a lawyer traces the history of three men: his grandfather, and two other lawyers who played central roles in defining crimes against humanity and genocide for the Nuremberg Trials. This book is an incredible look at the generational impact of loss that the Holocaust has on people and communities. Very well written and engrossing. #bookstagram#abookafortnight#newyearsresolution
