Great job by my dude Caleb today!
Today we worked on his upper half, we worked on pivoting the barrel while maintaining his upward back-forearm angle.
In the last few swings, you’ll see taking Split Grip Swings with the 33 inch 30 oz bat. The added weight forces him to support the barrel with his back arm and the spilt grip forces him the turn the barrel before pushing it out.
Awesome day for Caleb!
The bash brothers Michael and Matthew were in the building this morning. Love working with these guys!
Matthew set a distance personal record of 181 he’s 11, that’s really good!
And Michael set a exit velocity personal record of 85 MPH.
Both of these guys have worked really hard to get a better stretch in their load to help them attack pitches more aggressively from all angles!
Great work guys, keep going!
If 12 years old boys have to increase their exit velocity by 30+ MPH to hit homers and 12 year girls only have to increase their exit velocity by 10-15 MPH to hit homers. Why do people tell girls that they are a singles gap to game hitters when they 100% could have the power to hit the ball over the fence.
In fact, it’s easier to gain 10-15 MPH of exit velocity than it is to gain 30+ MPH of EV.... obviously.
Are you not a power hitter because you can’t hit the ball hard enough yet? Or did some one tell you what type of hitter you were?
If someone told you that you’re not a power hitter don’t believe them. You can be, especially for softball players.
Don’t sleep on how good Jeff Kent was as a hitter. ⚾️ One of the most sudden swings you’ll ever see. ⚾️ Also, I used to dominate teams with him and Barry Bonds in World Series Baseball 2K1 on SEGA Dreamcast 😂😂. ⚾️ Who’s your favorite slept on hitter?
Awesome turn here from Willie Mays.
One of the best players of all time!
Peep 👀 that back foot coming up and forward. It’s the result of the turn of his pelvis pulling his foot forward.
He steps far enough when to turn of his pelvis has to pull his foot since his leg is fully extended and his pelvis turns all the way to the SS.
It visually may look different but this a really efficient way to swing since the pelvis’ turn circumference isn’t limited by the back leg’s length.
Reading The Science of Hitting in 9th grade changed my life. I thought about hitting totally differently after that.
That said, looking back if I were to revise one small thing it would be this.
In the pictures in the book Williams does a ton of reaching towards the pitch prior to the turn of his shoulders.
This delays the turn of his barrel which is 👎Unless the pitch is inside.
This shouldn’t take away from the amazing achievement that this book was for it’s time. But the Nature of science is constant revision. I can have great respect for Ted Williams and not agree with everything.
If I get stuck in a box my hitters will too.
Don’t reach towards the ball, turn through the ball.
This one is 👌 if your trying to learn how to leg kick functionality. That said, there is a lot of ways you could do this drill wrong.
It’s important to try and keep your foot level with the chair until you clear it on the side closer to the pitcher. Similar to the way that Harper moves in the second part of the video.
Check out how in the video of Harper how long his foot stays parallel with the lettering for @baseballswingpedia this is a really easy way to optimize the performance of your leg kick so you can still move you body forward after your lift. So many kids lift them just get stuck on their back leg. That’s a big no no.
Also shoutout to @baseballswingpedia for all the awesome videos they post.
Do you barrel tip?
Valddy Jr does!
He tips out towards the 1st base dugout. This gives him more room to accelerate his barrel sideways into the zone.
It also allows him to become kinetic so he can flow into his swing. “Newton's first law of motion – sometimes referred to as the law of inertia states that an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. “
Valddy Jr getting his bat tipping out towards 1B allows his bat to be more easily accelerated.
There’s some risk/reward to this move but if you get it right you can hit tanks. 💪💣
