As most people know, I started volunteering with @harvest_blues after my father died. Harvest week was his Christmas & I thought it was the best way to remember & honour him. So even though I have many more reasons I do it now, every year I have a moment. One where memories flood me & I'm overwhelmed with emotion. My Harvest family know this & are amazing & supportive & give hugs while I compose myself. Tonight I had that moment. Jimmy's oldest friend, my "Uncle" Brian, was out tonight. I haven't seen him in probably 10 or 12 years. We laughed, we cried & when we parted, I went behind the trailer & let the rest out, then on with the job. I owe him so much for introducing me to Harvest & for all the wonderful things in my life because of it. #myharvest#betterthamdimes#hugsheal
As humans we were meant to be close. ---
Brent and I said we would always hug our kids. As they get bigger (and mine are all bigger than me) it can just feel different when they're little and climb right up in our lap. ---
But, hug away, we never stop needing touch. And PS- it's hard to be mad at someone when you're hugging.
Today is R U OK Day.
But, sometimes action speaks louder than question.
So, let's open our arms, lend our ears and share kindness from our hearts.
Join me as hug ambassador and let's open more arms for the world.
Farewell, California. Today, 9/10, is National Suicide Prevention day. I always feel my father’s presence when I’m in California while simultaneously missing him terribly every time I see a beautiful palm tree he would have loved. At the airport bar, I chatted with three beautiful Cuban sisters who were traveling together. When the left, the elder sister hugged me. It was one of the best hugs I’ve ever had. Generous, warm, strong, and full of love. I teared up a bit as they walked away. Human connection is beautiful and powerful thing. I hope someone hugs you today and tells you you are beautiful, you are worthy, you are deserving of love. And if they don’t, please consider this my virtual hug to you. You are loved. #nationalsuicidepreventionday#ca#california#sunset#palmtrees#suicide#nationalsuicidepreventionmonth#allyouneedislove#hugsheal#humanconnection
I was never a natural hugger, it wasn’t massively modelled in my childhood and as an adult I often felt uncomfortable, awkward and a little invaded when receiving hugs. But I attended some cuddle workshops to help me understand my discomfort and work through it and now I absolutely love giving and receiving hugs. I understand just how beneficial they are for good mental and emotional well-being, not just the science bit mentioned here but also from how they make me feel better in my times of needs. #hugs#emotionalwellbeing#oxytocin#wellbeingwarrior#hugsheal#wellbeingcoach#beyourownhero
"This may sound corny, but love is the answer... It wouldn't hurt to have more love in the world. We should do that. Like really"
Elon Musk, one of the most unique and fascinating minds in the world, just said that on the JRE. He's achieving all sorts of crazy engineering and technology feats, playing a totally different game to the rest of us, yet he believes in humanity and love just like I do. Cool, hey?
2 years ago we put more love into the world with our free hugs at the harbour event.
Doing it again next Thursday 7.30-10.30 am at Wollongong Harbour.
Check out the event "Free Hugs at the Harbour Hug-a-Thon" on my Deenamic business page for all the details and make sure you come down for a hug.
And please share the event so that anyone who needs a hug and a smile can learn about it.
