#3810 MonsRegius Nocturna Puerta Verde (Canada)
Martin from MonsRegius linked me with a dope batch of beers for review a while back and I’ve had this sitting around because nobody would split a large stout with me. Until now. So this is an 8% coffee stout brewed with single origin coffee from Guatemala. It pours dark with a huge yeasty head, mild nose, light body, sharp carbonation, dark chocolate and espresso notes, tangy and sweet, slightly bitter with a dry, lingering finish. Solid.
We’ve been busy prepping our bar cool room today ahead of this Wednesday’s ‘Dark Sessions’ showcase with @mpbrewery.
It will be the first time that their Old Pumping Station II will be available on tap. This years edition is an Imperial Stout that has been aged in Tennessee Whisky barrels. Expect aromas of raisin and vanilla complemented with flavours of caramel and pepperberry.
Also on tap will be their collab with Mornington based coffee roasters @commonfolkcoffee, the Commonfolk Brown. We also have a keg from their collab with @montaltovineyardandolivegrove, the 2018 VinAle Red; a Brown Ale that has been co-fermented with Pinot Noir Juice.
Oh, and there will also be a sneaky vertical of their 2016, 17 and 18 Imperial Stouts on tap. AND, we’ll be the first Sydney tapping of their brand new big NEIPA, the Squid Supremacy!! If all of that wasn’t enough to tempt you, then wait for this.. Mornington Peninsula Brewery founder Matt Bebe, their head brewer Kristian Martin and their NSW representative Jarrod Partington will all be in the bar to chat beer with you throughout the evening.
Wednesday night is going to be a large celebration of beer.
With winter in full swing you'll need something to kickstart your day and warm your nights. Holgate Empress is an Imperial Mocha Porter.Clocking in at a huge 10% ABV, this exhibits flavour to match. Cold drip roasted coffee beans, rich dutch chocolate and vanilla. Available from our Crows Nest and Ashfield store.
#3809 Evil Twin Even More Coco Jesus (USA)
I drunkenly copped this from a bodega in Bushwick at like 1am last summer, not realizing that $3.50 would purchase me a 12% imperial stout. It pours black as tar with a café head, chocolatey nose, super creamy and smooth, subtle coconut blends with maple syrup sweetness, some black liquorice and bitter espresso vibes, dark chocolate, fruity sweetness and a heavy lingering finish. Great for this cool night.
Barrel-Aged Henna(Swirl) by @morebrewing
Though I missed Vanilla Caviar, Swirl would be the best variant of BA Henna series.
Pleasant vanilla flavor combined with milk chocolate and fresh coffee. Thick body.
But bourbon flavor fell short of my expectation.
