Team Penske announced on Friday their 2019 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship entries.
The 2019 roster for their Acura Team Penske program will stay the same with one change. Graham Rahal has been removed from the roster and been replaced by fellow Honda IndyCar driver, Alexander Rossi, who finished 2nd in the 2018 IndyCar Series Championship.
While replying to a comment on Instagram, Rahal discussed the change, "They didn't [kick me out]. I don't fit in the car, and had to politely take one for the team and remove myself." Rahal shared the No. 7 Acura with Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor in the Michelin Endurance Cup races.
The No. 6 ARX-05 Acura DPi will be driven by Dane Cameron, Simon Pagenaud and Juan Pablo Montoya in the 2019 Michelin Endurance Cup events at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta. Cameron and Montoya will be full-time drivers in the WSCC tour.
Alexander Rossi will take Rahal's position sharing the No. 07 ARX-05 Acura DPi with Castroneves and Taylor who will also run the Prototype full-time.
Rossi will make his second IMSA start in the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona next month, and is no stranger to pressure. The former Formula One driver won his first Indianapolis 500 in the 100th Running back in 2016. Since the historic win, the Californian has won 4 more times including 3 in 2018 which set him up for a championship duel with 4-time champion, Scott Dixon. In the end, Rossi miss timed a start on teammate Marco Andretti and ruined his championship hopes in turn 1.
Rossi finished 16th in the Prototype division and 61st overall in the 2014 Rolex 24.
Rossi will run the 24 Hours of Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March. Penske did not announce the team's options for Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen, nor the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans.

Flashback Friday . After hearing that there are moves to bring about the return of Indycar to the Gold Coast I though I would post a shot that I took from one of my favorite vantage points on the surfers paradise circuit , the Seacrest building above the beach chicane 👍 A great view down into the cockpit as the drivers attacked the curbs. Let’s bring the series back down under 👍👍
Harding switching to Honda.
The Harding Steinbrenner Racing team will switch from Chevrolet power to Honda Performance in the 2019 IndyCar Series Season. In their first-full season, Harding entered a Chevrolet in the 17-race 2018 season with Gabby Chaves, Conor Daly, Colton Herta and Pato O’Ward sharing the bowtie machines.
2018 Indy Lights Champion, Patricio (Pato) O’Ward made his debut in the Harding No. 8 Chevrolet at the IndyCar Series finale at Sonoma Raceway in September. He was joined by runner-up and Andretti teammate, Colton Herta who ran the team’s full-time entrant in the No. 88 Chevrolet. Since the September race, Harding has merged with Road to Indy team, Steinbrenner who shares a hold in the New York Yankees MLB team, and hired Herta and O’Ward into their Nos. 8 and 88 Chevrolets for 2019 season. Thursday, HSR announced a switch from Chevrolet to Honda to be more aligned with Andretti Autosport, who shares an alliance.
McLaren Racing announced earlier this week the team will run a Chevrolet engine in the 2019 Indianapolis 500, which brought speculation that Harding Steinbrenner would help McLaren, after HSR got help from Andretti. The manufacturer swap adds some question marks. Will McLaren be assisted by Andretti much like the 2017 entry despite the cross-manufacture?
