The “rest” described in Exodus and throughout Scripture is above all a state of peace and fellowship with God. Mere cessation of work does not a Sabbath mindset make. God’s intention in giving the Sabbath was for Israel to be a microcosm of redeemed humanity, a community beginning to live out the “rest” of a people in intimate fellowship with Him, despite their continued struggle with sin.
To help Israel understand this ongoing dynamic of redemption and sanctification, God laid down two institutions: the Tabernacle and the Sabbath. explicitly ties the two together: “You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.” (Biblical scholars have noticed that both the Tabernacle and Shabbat are pictures of life in the Garden of Eden, the original place of fellowship with God.) By setting them alongside each other, God shows these to be equally sacred institutions. During the weekly Shabbat Israel was to imitate God when He “rested” (shavat), or ceased from creating. On Shabbat, Israel was not to engage in any act of creation, whether that lay in making something new or adapting existing things for use. Israel was to cease from creative acts just as God did—they were to experience life on the seventh day by enjoying both the Creator and the Creation. #shabbatshalom#jewsforjesus#שבתשלום#jewishlife

Holy Rollin’ 🚲🛴🛵 (across the city)
Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv. Holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. The experience in Israel is like none other. The entire country is shut down to public transit and car traffic as we bike, skate, and ride the streets and highways of this metropolis.
Shout to my man and a huge thanks to @justinbrewr for rollin with me as we filmed and photo’d this unique annual event for a side project we are working on 🙏🏼🚲✊🏼
Holiday posts complete. We’re into the new year. New photos on the way ➡️➡️➡️
Love all these ladies. Over the last few weeks I've had the pleasure of hosting my amazing mother in law and my husband's 5 incredible sisters. Day by day they are heading home and the house is getting quiet which is bittersweet!! What an experience these past few weeks where. I'm sure my beloved father in law was smiling 24/7 while we where all together since that was always what he wanted. It's been 7 months since he passed and we miss him every day but we definitely felt he was with us all over the holidays. #family#fun#sisters#hairloungebysarah#holiday#jewishnewyear#succos#fullhouse#funtimes
