When comes to churches, I will vote for St. Petersburg.
In my previous posting, I said that I fall in love with St. Isaac's but when I saw this church, I spent hours admiring its interior until I have to feature this church in two postings or maybe more.
It's just so so beautiful.
This was the site where Emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded by political nihilists therefore the name.
The church was built in medival Russian style which is a departure from the rest of churches in St. P which were built in baroque and neo classical. .
In my fourth photo, you can see pillars made from malachite. Being a soft stone, you cant make a pillar with one solid stone. These pillars if you can look closely were made from million pieces of malachite stones carefully pieced together to give the impression of one solid stone. How amazing!
